lots of fj60's have had off frame restorations and been repainted, including mine which i got for half of $20k minus another view thousand. Granted mine has a 8/10 paint job, and needed a little work, but your going to need more info

from the rear tailgate it looks like you're doing a color change, but didn't remove the doors or hood?

No color change, that's red/orange masking tape. The entire vehicle was disassembled - all doors, hood, fenders and inner fenders were removed and treated for any surface rust and painted individually, then put back together and another layer + clear coat.

where is this FJ located? When you say restoration .. are you only talking body ext? What else is being restored?

Exterior restoration was completed in New York.
The plan for the interior is to maintain the stock look.
Under the hood it's already had a lot of maintenance and runs great, but anything requiring an update will be addressed.
Frame/chassis - cleaned and coated. Added OME suspension and new shackles, shocks, etc. Unfortunately the shackles were put on backwards but it doesn't affect the suspension for road driving.
Brand new bumpers/end caps going on. Eventually OEM rims and new tires.

Beautiful color.....would love to see pics of everything finished....not looking to buy, just love cruiser porn!

I'm thinking the anti-inversion shackle is on wrong.

I'm thinking the anti-inversion shackle is on wrong.

You are right... that's pretty funny considering the attention to detail reported.

Shackles are on wrong. Is the radiator leaking? Looks like the core is shot. What's up with the York ac compressor on the motor? What happened to the toyota compressor?
Already noted. Will be addressing any and all issues under the hood including the AC system.

Don't take my comment the wrong way... what it was meant to say is: the paint looks awesome, the underside looks awesome, but it is something that needs equal attention (and you are by far not the first to do so) that the shackle is installed backwards.

The truck is beautiful for sure. It makes my 60 look like the Beverly Hillbillies car... that said mechanical integrity is the Land Cruiser's claim to fame and many here on mud (me included) are from the "function before form" school of thought.

As far as the compressor: that is a York AC compressor. Is it hooked up to the AC? Many people use those for onboard air systems. The stock AC condenser that would normally sit in front of the radiator looks to be missing as well.

Can we see some pics of the compressor and related stuff in that area? It might be easier to tell with a better view...

Once the radiator support goes back on the radiator and AC condenser are put back on and connected, at that point those systems will be tested for leaks and functionality. No qualms about replacing parts for either.

The stock AC compressor does a fine job cooling. If you are looking to get this back towards stock I'd ditch the York and the relayed hacked plumbing. I recently restored the AC in my "new" 60 after the PO had torn it all out. Parts are available new for almost everything.

IIRC, in the very early years of the 60 series, they didn't have factory A/C. In those years it was dealer installed, and they used the York compressor. Given that this truck is an 82, that would make sense.

Could be... that's news to me though.

I looked at an 81 years ago that did not have factory air, 2 groove crank pulley, no a/c push button. I figured it was stock that way, never made a deal on it.
I figured it was somewhat unusual.
