Hi guys, i recently purchase this fj45 1977 and i hate those 2f gas engine. I am looking to find out if anyone on here as already swapped some diesel toyota engine into one of these and whats involved with all electricals and if there is any "adapter kit" existing out there to facilitate such a venture! i have on hand a 1hz, 2lt,3l,3b and 2h(24v) all with h55f transmission.....as you can see in the pictures attached, this truck as a fitted power steering as well as a TBI injection kit wich will be for sale soon. Any help on the project is welcome. thanks

Check out my build thread. I have installed both the 2H and then later a 12HT into my 78' 45. It could not have been more straight forward and easy.

I'd go a 1HZ-T for kicks. Failing that a 2H-T but none of the others, especially a 2L-T.

on the picture below, the white hzj79 has a custom turbo kit installed and with water to air intercooler and it makes 242rwhp and 426 ft/lb torque at 10 psi, i realy like the power but i fear to much custom fabrication to fit a hz-t with all electrical into the 45....that's why i am looking at finding expertise in some engine/transmission/electrical swap so i understand fully in what kinda venture i am jumping in! My understanding is that a 2h or 12ht-t fits right in with minor adaptations.....i am not in a rush since the 45 goes right to storage since winter here in upper canada is knocking at my door already so i have 6 months to finish the work.

Go the 2H then. It was designed to fit into that truck. Mostly anyway, seeing it was a 8/80 on engine. Go see 76 FJ40's build. He's pretty much done it.
