update.
Im waiting for the new 1UZFE engine to arrive so at a stand still for now. I did order a new H55F transmission from Toyota. It arrived yesterday. Here are the pics. Still need the new oem split case which is ordered from Cruiser Outfitters. Then I have to order the bell housing from Dellow in Australia, new flywheel and a new clutch. Then assemble. I will post what I purchase and where I buy it for reference in case someone else wants to attempt this swap down the road.

Love the work man! Looks great.

Question: Did you get a stainless tailgate chain and mounting hardware?

Thanks, keep up the amazing work

Yes I did get them. I painted the original ones and didn't like them. I thought the contrast in color looked nice too.

Are you going to run a 40 series top cover on the H55F?

Gabe. Would you be willing to pull some measurements on placement of corner brackets for rear hoop?

I’m putting a FST on hardtop rig.

This should be the same on all FJ40s mid 70 to 75 maybe a 76. Doesn't have to be a FST. All models had them. If you have OEM bows I would just mount the whole setup. Anchored to the windshield and B pillar completely seated the rear bow will locate itself. Just be sure the bow is tight against the top of the tub.

I would love to find a fj40 h55 top plate. I am sure I will not be able to find one of those. The top cover might not be a bad idea. Do you have one?

I have an ‘81 with repro bows made by Pilgrim.

Even with everything mounted up, there is quite a bit of play from side to side. I could of course eyeball it, just thought I would get some measurements to keep the OEM look.

Surprised you didn't go with Koito H4s, but I can appreciate if its because they aren't domed like the originals. Does the boat motor come with ecu?

EDIT: I think I see the all black ecu connected to wiring harness. Out of curiosity, could you share the part number if there is one? Wondering if its a suitable option for 5spd swaps. Do you plan to keep the motor operated throttle body and connect throttle cable directly to it or ditch and go to early Tundra throttle body?

As far as the headlights go, I purchased these from Toyota. They came in a Toyota box and this is what I got. I guess since this is not a stock restoration I’m not to concerned.
I will check for a part number. Yes it came with ECU. It was bolted to the back side of the engine which I do not like. My plan is to disconnect it and feed both ends of the harness through the firewall. Then the ECU will be mounted on the inside of the firewall like it should be.
Yes the engine is comparable with a h55 5 speed. I had to order a new flywheel, clutch, and a special bell housing from Australia. (Dellow). The H55 I purchased new from Toyota. The new oem split transfer case came from Cruiser Outfitters.
I am planning on keeping the motor throttle body
