I ordered new window felts from SOR, and subsequent to installing them, realized my door retention screws were rusted to the point where it would become a major issue to take the window out.
So, I wondered if I could replace the felts from the top with the window still there.
The answer is yes, but, it's a PITA. So I replaced only the felts that were missing/shredded and now have a mix of old and new ones. But it works and no more window rattles.

Drove the rig to the store to get groceries when I noticed an odd smell. Checked under the hood to see a pinhole in the nearly new bypass hose. Slapped some bubba tape on it and drove it home.
My wife is off driving our modern car to visit relatives, so this is my only running vehicle right now, so got O'Reilly's to order in a replacement, due later today.

That’s interesting. I had a new bypass hose from SOR that had a pinhole leak as well. Wonder if there’s a quality issue at the international bypass hose factory?

I've been thinking about it and have two ideas. First, that is a pretty radical curve for a hose, so the curve may contribute. Also, the pinhole is right where inattentive tools can damage it.

Fits significantly better than the garbage I originally had on it.
When I put all the cooling tin on, I felt quite smug.
Now, not so much.
The combo of internally regulated alternator and cooling tin made this a royal PITA. Did manage to get it off and installed the new one through removing nearly EVERYTHING. Top tip, install the long pivot bolt for the alternator with the head facing aft, so you don't have to suffer quite as much as I did this evening. Also, if installing a late 2F into an early 40, do yourself a solid and just get the early thermostat housing as the caps also got in the way.
The regulator is just the right size to limit your ability to remove the belt because it hits the head lifting bolt.

Drove to a meeting last night, and decided it's past time to replace the windshield.
No cracks or chips, but time has turned it into a Fresnel lens, which makes seeing past headlights and reflections from streetlights nearly impossible. Plus the rubber is expired and chunked out in several places.
I'm currently debating whether to try to find a place around here that will do it, or ordering glass from Cruiser Corps and doing it myself.
Note: Nashville area is pretty much hopeless for a. finding someone who will do it in a timely manner and b. finding someone who will do a good job of anything automotive.

I've been losing oil through my bubba valve cover vent, and when I checked it, the PCV was operable and the el cheapo filter was compromised and puking oil.
Went all out and spent $8 on another one and put some hose on it to extend it.

Received my blemished windshield from Cruiser corps, along with troop seat covers and windshield lock.
Package arrived a day early, but opened by someone. Despite arriving opened, the contents were fine. I wonder what they thought was in there?
No damage to the windshield and the folks at cruiser corps had helpfully marked the damage so I would know.

For the 3rd time in 4 years, I used a land cruiser to respond to a tornado. This time it was in my own neighborhood. We were hit with an EF3 tornado which passed within a block of our house and took down a TVA tower. 6 dead and a lot of chaos here.
FJ40 is the perfect vehicle for moving through storm affected area with 4wd and short wheelbase. Doing serious work right now.

We are not only fine, we are barely inconvenienced. House is crowded with a couple extra families, with zero damage to the house. Our electricity was restored in an hour. Lots of trees to clear and rubble to clear and many still don't have electricity.

Out of the blue, some old timer came up to Mavis to check her out. He looked at me, said "wait a minute, I got something for you". He went to his pickup and dug through his tool box and came out with this.
Back in the day he had a 1974 FJ40 and had rebuilt this carb to put on it when a storm collapsed the building it was in, totalling it. He also dug out wood handled JIS screw driver, tire iron and spark plug wrench.

I finally got some time off from tornado cleanup, doing a timing set and water pump on my kids new to them minivan and other sundry items to get back on Mavis.
I pulled the old, crazed windshield and while prepping the new windshield, dropped the d*mned thing and broke it.
Ordered another one from Cruiser Corps and while waiting, will fix some other items.
First, finished reupholstering the rear jump seats. Super easy job and was sure to use 14 gauge wire to strengthen and improve the look of the seams. Helpful tip is to fill in the seat bases with 1 inch thick foam, then fill the cushion with 2 inch foam.
Then, I replaced the turn signal mechanism.
Looking back on it, I would've left the upper portion be, and just replaced to lower portion. Replacing the upper portion was a PITA, and didn't really improve anything. But the blinkers work without dinking to find contact, so that's a good thing.
BTW, the upper hole is threaded M10 1.50 and is a major pain to remove and reinstall and the replacement unit comes unthreaded and is a PITA to hold firmly enough to thread it without warping the unit.
Also, are those little ears automatic cancelling devices? I'm told they can interfere with the steering wheel operation and have heard they should be removed. Thoughts?

One more thing; the lower unit anchoring collar comes with a screw that is a skosh too short to actually engage the opposite side. I compared it with the screw that came off and noted the discrepancy and then just reused the old screw.
