Just bid farewell to my 55 Zeke and did some more wheeling with Mavis at the Southern Swine Soiree at Land Between the Lakes.

...

That makes 100% failure of wheel cylinders I've rebuilt. Not going to make that mistake again.

You sold your 55? This makes me a little sad, but I appreciate that circumstances change.

I used to rebuild wheel cylinders as a young man; at some point about 40 years ago I came to the realization that it was just not worth it - the cost of new cylinders is not that much. Next to nothing for some cars. I still have the little itty bitty hone in my tool box (hate to throw anything away).

I have a brand new never used itty bitty hone in my toolbox. I guess I was smart from the gitgo 😂.

Often wonder where my 55 is, if I still had it I’d keep it. Live and learn.

After I got home this happened.

Then noticed this

Also had the window felts on the passenger side door disintegrate and blow away in a severe crosswind crossing a tall bridge, so have ordered new wheel brake cylinders, tie rod ends and window felts.

What caused that tire issue? Not aligned? additionally now I am glad I did not rebuild the cylinders my 40 came with a bunch of rebuild kits but I just didnt want to to do it. Also sorry you had to sell your 55. I love those land cruisers. I honestly really miss my fj80. My wife was driving it and we rolled it on the hwy. I would love another but my wife does not want to have another one in the family.

Based on the radical cupping of the tire, it has to be a tie rod end issue. I think I can wiggle it a bit, but it's hard to tell. I'll replace them, as the rubber covers are shot anyway and see if that fixes the issue.

I didn't have to get rid of Zeke, but I didn't have the energy or desire to put into it what was needed. Luckily it is going to stay in the Mud family.

One minor victory. I have a shed load of extra mustang parts and am missing the clutch pedal pad on my 40.

I stumbled over an extra mustang clutch pedal pad and asked myself, "self, isn't this mustang clutch pad about the size of the 40 pad?"

Well rub me in butter, that thing fits like it was made for it.

People give me grief for having used a VW Beetle gas pedal pad on my 40, but like yours it fits perfect and I had it on hand.

It's amazing the difference in driveability a clutch pedal pad makes. And the truck doesn't know its made for a Mustang.

Especially when you're making quick shifts in tight spaces during an off road trail ride.

Because I have plans to take this rig to more northern climes from time to time, I decided to reinstall the rear heater.

Because I haz a dumb, I ripped the old heater out without really documenting where everything came from, I had this:

Pardon the blur, but the end of this piece was crushed pretty good. I thought about getting a new piece, but instead tried to rescue this one.

This is the result of some judicious squeezing and expanding.

I am currently soaking the valve in evaporust, prior to soaking it in mouse milk, prior to trying to break it loose and see if it still works.

The fan in the rear heater is hitting something, which will not stand for very long.

But at least it makes power in at least one speed. Once I can get it running in at least one speed, I'll look into getting two speeds out of the fan.

I went through this and tried to document it. Started here... PNW 67 Patina Blue - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/pnw-67-patina-blue.1289865/page-4#post-14699350

Where was it? Did/do you have a second fuel tank? Fuel supply switch valve? If in coolant system then maybe a burp valve, it’s a challenge to get air out of the heater lines. Not stock however.

It was in the cooling lines running to the rear heater.

So burp valve it is!

Ok, after several searches of Mud and other internet forums, the b.s. out there about heater hose sizes is pretty thick and all wrong.

The hoses from the engine and to the front heater are 5/8 inch. The hoses to the rear heater are 15mm or 19/32. Failing to realize this turns this into a serious PITA.

The hoses to the rear heater are approximately 6 ft long.

I've put this here as a reference. Will post pics later

I recently realized that my spare was off a 1950s GM truck and didn't match the rest.

So I ordered a new 15" wheel from Ourisman Toyota, as McGeorge is now part of the past. Took 3 days to get it, and cost $126.

Pretty cool, actually, but I realized this welded wheel has 6.5 inch rims, whereas I think the 4 originals on it are 5.5 inch. Anyone see a problem with running an odd width rim?

I need to install a heater period haha. Mine had a dealer installed heater that was kinda like a hupp style one. it was too far gone to save as the heater core was like swiss cheese and it was beat up and missing parts.. I think I am going to by one of these heaters as it is very similar to what was in it prior. H-503012 - Maradyne HP Fans - https://maradynehp.com/product/h-503012/.
