Can you tell it was patched here!?

I am satisfied with this. Would you guess it had been fully fabricated!?

Question for any of you folks watching this build....

Would you be interested in watching another!? :D

It is a 77 Ute (pickup) and will not be a restoration to stock but more built for trail use. Do you think it is appropriate here on Mud and or in chit chat?

Cheers

You, sir, are an artist! That frame is almost too pretty to cover up. I look forward to all your posts. I've always loved the old Patrols. I think with the work you do, we would all love to see you build a baby buggy, so I seriously doubt anyone would object to a "ute" build.

Absolutely! It is art in motion.

Posted from a brick.

Yup,

It's just nice to see examples of attention to detail that we should aspire to.

Oh and Happy New Year!

Frame looks great!

why would anyone want to watch a perfectionist build another rig?
cause it is enjoyable.
count me in, post a link in this thread. Not Chat though, there is a section for your build.

Yes, keep'm comin'. I love build threads, especially yours.

敬意 !!

Simply amazing! Once again all this thread is doing is make me miss my 1977 620 pick up.
How difficult is it to find Datsun replacement parts for the Patrol?

The frame looks amazing!

Thank you, all you guys! :o

And Zack it is pretty darn hard to find the NOS parts to do a restoration like this. I am not sure I could do another one to the level this one will be again, simply due to the lack of parts. I hope I get a chance to try though!

Best bet with a Patrol or any other rare vehicle, find a good one to start with and buy parts trucks!

However, none of the bearings or seals on the whole truck are really a problem. Engine rebuild kit can be had here in the USA. Body parts are being sold for these trucks here in the USA too. It is all the other stuff that is had to get!

Cheers

I am still preparing all the sand blasted parts for paint. It is taking way more work then I thought it would but I am going pretty far with things. Like the axle tubes all cleaned out of old grease/oil. Wire brushing (on the 4" grinder) everything, detailing any areas the sand blaster missed. Cleaned up all the suspension parts like the shackle plates and spring plates. Fixing the random odds and ends on any parts needing it before paint. It is just a lot of stuff to do. We are talking about doing another load of paint on Thursday though, axle & some suspension stuff so I can get to rebuilding the axles soon.

Cheers

THAT is the gospel.
same with any refurbishing build. depending on the detail of the build, you can literally save 10s of thousands by starting with the right base unit.
especially if you are paying labor.
keep up the great work, impressive indeed.

I myself look forward to seeing posts in this build.

I love it when a customer brings you what he thinks is gold to rebuild and then you start pulling it apart and blasting everything down to find out every piece of metal has major rot to include the frame.

Look forward to you building that ute on here now.

We got back some of the items that were sent out for plating. I think they turned out awesome! many things look brand new and they are nearly 50yr old parts!

Please keep in mind a lot of these items are to be painted just like stock. However, a lot of these items are wear point parts and as such we didn't want the paint to wear off leaving bare metal. So under the paint will be the zinc coating which should stop any corrosion when paint wears or chips. Some of the pictures are without a flash so the parts don't appear "washed out".

Cheers

I don't know what half those parts are, but they look just awesome. Good work man.

Hows the wood stove and shop been treating you?
you had me in a frenzy this fall thinking I would need seven, plus cords of wood to get us through the winter here. Luckily it's been mild in PA up till now. Barely a cord and a half so far...

oohhh  shiny parts. Isn't that the best !?
I bet it feels like christmas all over again.

Picture spam time!! :grinpimp:

So we got back the trans, t-case, bell housing PTO winch and PTO box from the rebuild shop. The trans & t-case looks a bit scabby right now after only being hot tanked. I am going to clean them up still before paint or before posting pictures of them! The PTO stuff is alloy casing/box so it looks nice after a bath in the tank. It is all new stuff now, bearings, seals and much more.

The rear axle brake backing plates were pretty trashed. The front generally have more oil & grease on them and they don't get so bad. We removed a good lower backing plate from a front axle and welded it on the rear axle backing plates. They came out nice!
