Looking forward to following along.

I’ve had your donuts before and was saddened when you closed the doors. Was always a stop on the way up 8 from NC to Blacksburg to meet with builders in the area.

What’s funny is I’ve seen your LS around christiansburg with the tag and didn’t make the connection before.
Thank you for your support! Have you stopped by and tried the donuts from the new owners of RT8? It’s a super nice Mennonite family that runs it now.

And whats wrong with people these days ?!?
After the donuts the parking lot was my favorite highlight of the drive. I mighta peeked at your collection before :)

I know right!!! I was just trying to blend in with Jack’s Auto repair next door.

Everything changed drastically when they built the $14M ER/Urgent Care facility beside us after they bulldozed Jack’s Garage which really made us stand out as the sore thumb. That and I think some locals were just upset we closed and they couldn’t get donuts anymore. 😬

I have not, but glad to give them a try!
Had moved to Carrol Lee’s in the interim.

Funny thing is I almost had the nerve to go ask Jack’s for the number of the LC nut job next door ;)

progress has its price I suppose :/

What’s the story on the LWB vs SWB
Two projects?

I’m sure they would appreciate it!

Carol Lee has delicious donuts. Sean’s grandfather would be extremely proud of what he’s done. His grandfather came into the shop one morning. Bought 2 donuts and ate them. As he was leaving I asked him what he thought he grinned sheepishly and said they were good. It’s still to this day the highest compliment I was ever paid by anyone about our donuts. He never knew I knew who he was. Or maybe he did? As I’d been eating his since I was a little boy and my parents since they were at RU and VT in the early 70’s. Unfortunately I never got the chance to ask him.

You should have! Or just asked someone in the shop when we were still open. I was there almost every single day we were open.

Maybe progress does have a price? Maybe I’m just too stubborn to move on from the past? Who knows maybe I should have sold the property when HCA came knocking? Hindsight is always 20/20. Like many I’m sure I’ve got a lifetime of could’ve, would’ve and should’ve to glance up at in the rear view mirror. Luckily for me the SWB has a tiny rear view mirror so I hopefully won’t be too distracted by them.

Well…being a man of meager means I couldn’t afford a running driving 45. I am however keenly aware how fortunate I actually am by jus soli.

As many before me have done you think when you purchase a ā€œdealā€ you’re also buying yourself the time to work on it. But in reality you didn’t…

Had I just waited and not been so impatient I would have been able to purchase one 45 that was running/driving and gotten to enjoy it along the way. But I digress.

But back to your question…yes the ā€˜63 and ā€˜67 are both projects. Like some women do in dating I specifically look for projects or fixer uppers that need me to rescue them.

The ā€˜67 will be next…but unfortunately it’s got to impatiently wait its turn.

I’ve got to cut off the old 350 engine mount brackets and I’m curious if you guys have any brand preferences for cutoff wheels? I’ve used Dewalt recently and they just don’t seem to last that long.

I have been using Norton and Diablo cut off wheels.

Do you have an oxy/acetylene torch? You can cut most of that off with that, then use a grinder to fine tune.

I saw the Diablo wheels at Home Depot last night. I’ll give them a shot. Thanks for the suggestion!

I unfortunately don’t have a torch.

Does anyone see the need to cut off this scab plate that was added for the 350 swap? Is there anything that gets mounted behind it? It doesn’t look like it from the 2nd pic I found on @middlecalf ā€˜s thread but I want to be sure before I leave it. I’m going to cut off the 350 engine mount but I planned on leaving the plate to prevent further damaging the frame trying to remove it.

Keep the plates and cut those mounts off. I'd go out and look at my 45, but it's raining hard right now. As far as I can remember, under the battery tray there are fuel and brake lines in that area. The mount on that side will be in the way.

@Lifelong40Fan and @miller thank you guys for the suggestions and pics. I appreciate it! I’ll cut the mount off tomorrow and leave the plate.

You might want to cut part of the plate out so you can access the stock opening that lets you put in the bolt for the transmission mount.

Bolt probably could be put in with plate still there, just might require some hand yoga moves to get bolt and wrench in there.

Did I miss the part where you went from donuts to contrails?

Nah…my head is still up in the clouds. I’m just trying to make more dough.

So I’m torn…what’s your guys preference?

OEM for ā€˜63 (obviously if this was a survivor patina truck this wouldn’t even be a conversation).

or

Something different as in a 25 bib, 25 aprons, dual sided turn signals, T-bird, etc.

While my truck is currently far from OEM I have now collected most of the parts it was missing over the past 6 years of my caretaker ship. I plan on keeping the Safari front window.
