I don't believe the brass tags started until a few years later. I was just curious what the highest VIN is with the early soft top design. Believe these tags were stamped here in The US. The tags thenselves were different depending market. The tag that was required in Australia was completely different. Around 65 the DOT decided a vehicle from early model year being sold as new would need the tag so the buyer knew what he was buying. This problem was solved in 3/69. From then on month/year tag need to be on the driver's door frame. With a production date there was no need for the tags. Yours was made in 62 sold in 63.

I quickly calculated that your truck was made around August 1962.

As a comparison, my '64's vin number puts it as being built fall of 1963, BUT, it has the 4 as the first digit in the vin, clearly making it a '64 model...albeit a very early '64, with it still having some '63 and older parts.

That's interesting because I have two 1962's that are higher than the serial number of this one One is 156xx and the other is 165xx. They must be really late 1962's. 165xx seems to have come from the factory with single-sided front turn signals, and 156xx had the later style front bumper. We really need to create a thread of VIN numbers and early model changes. Hijack over.

A little quick math guesstimates puts the 165xx built around Nov '62, and 156XX around Sept '62
