Twin sticks and trans hump cleaned and painted.

This was a bigger pain in the *ss than I thought it would be. As I tell my boys...one mod always requires 2-3 additional mods :).

Look good Jimmy. Ditto on form before function

Mounted the PS reservoir just below the battery tray and off to the firewall side so it’s Accessible. Gonna see about getting a high pressure line made tomorrow. Was going to see if my local NAPA can do it.
I realize those that know me can’t believe I’m checking off the punch list so fast. Some would say I started taking ADD meds, but the truth is I picked up a can of Copenhagen the other day and I’m now laser focused :)

and my shop is cleaner than it’s ever been!!

Power steering done. Need to run it more to ensure there are no leaks. Found the two wires on the harness (PO cut all the clips off) that connect to the reverse lights to the transmission switch. Also pulled the female clip off the 12HT donor harness. Will tidy that up and then I’m done.

It’s interesting that I received two conversion projects almost two years ago. Some know, but I’ve been slowly doing these two (HJ60/12HT & a FJ55/12HT) jobs and the agreement between me and Duke (Yota imports) was either cash or a half cut 61. So the HJ 60 was not supposed to be as much work as it was. But when I found out who owned it (editor and chief of a large automobile magazine) and got to know him through the process (great guy and cruiser enthusiast), I could not NOT finish what needed to be done to make his truck right. Duke has a bad rap in some past deals and I definitely understand as the two jobs I did for him were getting him out of bad situations/deals he made between him and these two customers. Needless to say I did not hear much from him for a year or so and resigned myself to having done complimentary work. Did not want to see the two owners of these trucks not get what they were originally looking for. So he reaches out to me a month or so ago and said he was sending me a complete 61 in appreciation for all I’ve done. I was skeptical until I finally saw this on the transport outside of my neighborhood last night.

then I ran into all kinds of issues as the driver did not speak a lick of English and he could not get the highlander in front of my truck to start. Having 5 other cars to deliver between here and Galveston he loaded back up and took off. He plans to drop it back tomorrow or Monday on his way back out of TX. That and Duke just over nightied me the import paper work so I can title it. Was shipped into the port of Tacoma a few weeks ago.

so I still don’t have the truck but will chase the dude down with my truck and trailer if I have to :). And to close...after hooking up the reverse lights on the 55 my job on this truck is done. Unfortunately the suspension is so bad I can’t safely drive it to work out any bugs. Will do all I can to run it around my place and see if there are any leaks or adjustments needed. Thanks to all that helped me while working on these two trucks. I’ve learned more that I ever thought I would about HJ60’s and 55’s. This 61 is a 6.5 out of 10. If it runs good will be a great driver/play toy. It has the early stages of rust settling in. But went through the frame and all is solid. Overall this has been a great experience for me.

So the 55 is done, parked in the boneyard and waiting to be shipped to NC. And low and behold, the truck driver dude showed up about 10:30 this evening. So far things seem to be working out pretty good. Really have no idea if there are any issues with the motor or drivetrain. Will assess that in the next few days Look forward to removing the 6” shackles and replacing them with something a little but safer :).
