Spent way too much time doing this.

How it started...

Finally bought a set of these.

5/8" bolt fits just about perfectly with some modifications...

And the modifications

My highly scientific research to figure out the difference between RHD and LHD mirrors is about 15 degrees.

So I filled the old dimples with JB weld, and then used the spinny thing to spin them.

Worked out pretty well. But I don't have the energy to do the other side right now 🤣

I’ll dig a couple out. Would need to be posted from Terrace eh.

Poked a hole while waiting for the oil to drain.

Manual conversion to get rid of the vacuum stuff. Hope is to get the case and different gears all clean and built so it's a fairly quick turnaround.

Famous last words 😂

I think I have something worn in my gear set, had a ton of slop when I got the truck, and a pretty good clunk.

So I installed an input gear with long splines thinking it was that classic.
Splines were actually perfect, but it still cleaned up most of the slop. To me that means worn gears. So I'll try a different set.

Anyways you need to drill this out and tap to 15x1.5 mm. I have the tap if anyone finds themselves in this position.

While your in there get the gears out of a 4 speed tcase. 15% slower really helps.

Yeah I remember doing that ages ago. Not quite as easy to find these days.

I have a set of regular 5speed, and a set of auto gears.

I've heard auto are a smidge lower too, but I haven't had a chance to go tooth counting yet.

Hey. There’s a thread in 60 series. A friend in Ontario - Cruisin Canuck- is rebuilding his case. Georg got his experience in and made an interesting comment about mixing up gear sets.

I wasn't really planning to do any mixing. Just figured I'd use whichever set appeared to be in better shape.

The input gear is sort of a special case. Got it because I was thinking I had the worn spline issue.

Is it one of those McNamara jobbies with the long sleeve on it?

40 was blowing the "dash" fuse. It'd be ok for a week, then would last 2 seconds.

I'm not sure what this wire is for, but I am quite sure it shouldn't be loose and bare under the floor mat....

Mostly fits the symptoms, although I'm not sure it didn't blow that fuse without the key in. Just have to wait and see now.

If that doesn’t solve it I’d check the wiring to the reverse light switch… although in my bastardized 40 it was blowing headlight fuses randomly… and then it would be fine for weeks.

Lol, apparently I put this in the wrong thread.

I should just merge the two and have one big meandering clusterfuck of a thread. 🤣🤣

What, instead of two wandering clusterfucks of threads? Otherwise it would just go by too fast to enjoy.
