Yes, starting points you just tie off, you don't need to hide them as the thread and knots are so small. I can feel them if I really want to go hunting for them but they are tiny.
I will ask next time I see him. I would guess they soak and/or use a brush with cleaner to clean out all the deposits with the intake manifold off. I usually ask tons of questions but I was so tired when I picked it up I just wanted to get home.
Nothing to show but....paid my local LC specialist to fix coolant bypass pipe leak with new part as well as intake cleaning to fix rumbling when idle dropped under 600. Idle is dead set at 665ish now with no more toggling between 650 to 500 every 5 seconds or so.

I went through a repair of something just like that when I first got my LC. Cost me $500 to repair , add metal, repaint, but looks good as new now. It is probably a bit ugly with the metal under the weather stripping.
The white lettering ones are also with less sidewall rubber even with Load E. Odd but I did em for the weight savings which was 3lbs lighter for a tire for 285/75/16 even being slightly larger diameter. I believe the OWL (White Letter) are made in Japan.

Bastard PCV Valve Grommet and PCV Valve changed.
Luckily it was only 5 intense minutes with it trying to crack apart. I was able to get it out with needle nose pliers and a screwdriver, I tried with a screwdriver first leveraging it on the side but it was pushing it in. It was really close...
I am not claiming to be a pro, but I would really re-solder those better. The solder should be fusing them together and within the wire too, you kinda put it on like a glue gun.
My d light wasn't working when I got mine. I went on a bumpy dirt road and all working now. On the other hand The rest of your panel cluster out seems like an unusual problem.
