Been lurking around on Mud for a long time, not much of a poster my self but Ive appreciated other posting all the time.
In 2010 or something I bought my first Toyota 4x4, a 2000 Prado (KZJ95). Next step was my LJ73 which has a thread of its own in the 7-series section. The 9-series is sold, and for a short time I had a 2. Gen 4-Runner, a 120-series, and now have a 150-series. The LJ73 has stayed all along.
I first got an eye for 4-series when I saw Håvards BJ42, yeah you guessed right, this thread is about THAT 42.(...), think it was back in 2010 or something I first saw it, and from that moment on I was determined that one day Im going to own a 4-series LandCruiser!
As time went by 4-series has skyrocketed in price, and since both my time and skills are limited, Ive almost settled with it only being a dream.
A couple of years ago - to my surprice - Håvards BJ42 changed owner.
It wasnt out on the marked (this car is pretty well known here in Norway), a well documented build, fully road-legal and listed in the registration document is not for sale too often. Anyway, I started dreaming again when I saw fresh pictures of it being used. The new owner got the engine swap listed in the registration document too.
In the meantime Ive bought and sold a 2000 Hilux (still owning the 73 and 150), and had a 2007 Hiace (very reliable van). The Hiace was almost rust free and in a very rare good condition. Never used as a work car which most of them was over here, so it stood out in the crowd. The Hilux and Hiace was mainly used for my kids to learn to drive with a stick, at least thats the excuse for sitting on several cars
Then one day I saw Håvards old BJ on a picture on Facebook (ok, I admit I sometime opens the app, but never posts), and the new owner was planning to sell the BJ but would prefer a rust free Hiace (and money) for a swap, before listing. Ive met him before (a friend of mine bought a LJ73 from him many years ago). So, suddenly I was sitting with good cards in a game I wasnt prepared for.
Normally I think things through before I make a decision, knowing the marked I had to speed up the process, played my hand well - the BJ is now mine
