What are you guys running for seat belts? The wife wants me to put in shoulder seat belts all the way around. Front seat and rear seats.

Would like to get your ideas or what you have used already.

Thanks

Two options that you can consider for stock look

http://wescoperformance.stores.yahoo.net/resebe.html - not a bad fit, although they don't provide metric hardware - you'll need to fab a spacer for attachment at the "B" pillar.

http://ssnake-oyl.com/ can restore you originals, if the buckles are inspected and found to be OK.

Never have seen anything other than lap belts in the back - maybe someone else has done a retrofit.

I to have pondered this , I recentley found a 70 toyota Hilux pu in a local pick a part yard . That had a set of factory shoulder belts that the shoulder part un-cliped from the lap portion . so for day to day i could use the lap . And for wheeling i could use the top part . .
this raised questions . 1) the top bolt hole is kinda back above the rear door and makes the belt hang in the way of my kids .
2) if they are visible to the outside will i get pulled over and cited for no belt useage .
My best friend is a local law officer and he assures me that if i install them i must allwayse use them or get ticketted , ( stupid CA law) .
This is absurd to me as if i was the one to install them shouldent i have the choice ?

I have a 1970 fj55 which came dissasembled to me so I am unsure of what fits where, it looks like to me that the rear seat also had 3 point shoulder seat belts? see pic. There is a rear attachment point exactly the same as the front point where I believe the shoulder harness is attached, is this rear attachment point for something else other than a shoulder belt? I contacted snake oil today to see what the costs of refinishing mine would be, will post up when I find out the $$.

Anyone on info on exactly what belts came in a 1970 vintage I would appreciate the help.

I am also looking at the retractable 3 point kits that CCOT sells and I think they might work for the 55. I have them in my fj40, so will probably pull one side and see if they work, that is, when I get to that point in the rebuild. I am WAY far away from that now....

i have a set of the factory retractable ones as well , but all the 55s i have seen with them they hang in the rear doorway . so i was still looking for more options . any non factory pics would be helpfull as well .

Are you talking about this one? Sure looks like a seatbelt attachment spot! Is there one somewhere on the floor behind the seat for the rest of it? I'd just do an aftermarket retractable if it was me.

Evan: those ones that unclip from the lap belt probably aren't retractable. That would be really uncomfortable when wheeling!

I think that you could probably find a 60 that has retractable 3 point belts and then install them throughout the whole rig. At least that is what I am shooting for.

In the back I am not sure where I am going to bolt it in. Once I find the right place get a big enough fender washer and nut back there is going to be the trick!!!!!

I wonder how much these belts run through Cdan. Or even 80 series belts.

You could always do what Nat did and just put in Chevy Silverado Seats with the intergrated shoulder harness. Also I think Chevy Taho rear bench seats have an ingtergrated shoulder harness. I dont know if it is too wide or skinny for the pig. But it could be a good replacement. Plus if you can find close years of the 2 models I belive they have the same color material and pattern of stiching.

Sorry the images arnt bigger they are the best google would turn up.

I put Chevy Silverado seats in the front, they have built in shoulder units and are really comfortable. Not sure about the rear, I need to do something about that too.

Last time I used some out of a mini truck, worked almost perfectly and they are toyota and say so.. It had decent clips but I pulled some out of a Celica or something like that in the junk yard that were the same design but were black and they worked great... :)

So on this same topic, I got some shoulder belts out of my 76' parts pig... I wanted to use them in my 73' 55 but the retractor box mounts to the lower B pillar on the 76'... my 73' does not have the mounting hole. Anyone seen/done something to make these work?

I am using extensions and FJ-60 belts that are too short, they won't fit anyone with much of a waste....

Hmmm, Jeffrey I just put some new seats in my 76 pig and it has lap belts only up front (and rear as well). Just walked down stairs and looked for signs of anything mounted top or bottom of the B pillar for a shoulder belt and/or retractor...and there is nothing. The manufacture date on the ID tag is 12/75. Originally, I think it had the bench seat in front. Was 3 point seat belts an option at that time ???
