Is that 131 mm or inches? I hope inches... If so, that would work, as I estimate the Pig front belts at 11 feet (132 inches)

Pablo; did get to check the 69 beneath the rotten head liner with rats nests and other debris finding it also has the "holes" drilled and tapped for cross shoulder seatbelts.........did not come with them but as early as april 69 Toyota had already started putting hardware in place......HTH;

Wow! That is pretty damn interesting. I wonder what the reasoning was behind that decision at Toyota?

1/2 inch hole drilled into sheet metal backing plate behind it holding a grade 8 DIN hex nut.......12mm x 25 mm Hex head screw holds retrator mechanism in place.....you can see unfinished notch for the retractors positioning pin.......things left to do........spot weld the F....%#@&*()^&%$>:" hex nut to the backing plate; had to use the magnet about 20 times to pull up the F@#$^&%^$ backing plate......make sure you file the burrs down on the notch for the retractors positioning pin......metal filings are sharp:eek:
belts are working well boxed and ready to send in the AM to Ssnake-Oyl....hope this can help others;

Going back to this post by Lou, I think this is how I will install 3 points in my Pig.

I have a Jan '74 but it has no provisions for retractable units in the B pillar - unless they bolted them to the floor?

O-k, silly question, but is there a right and a left to the 3 point retractable belts that came in our Piggies?

I have 3 like this, with the offset to the left when you are looking at them.

Just wondering if I ended up acquiring 3 for one side.

TIA,

Two options that you can consider for stock look

Retractable Seat Belts - not a bad fit, although they don't provide metric hardware - you'll need to fab a spacer for attachment at the "B" pillar.

Ssnake Oyl Products can restore you originals, if the buckles are inspected and found to be OK.

Never have seen anything other than lap belts in the back - maybe someone else has done a retrofit.

I was stunned to find out that the hardware on all the seatbelts I had collected; 2 point belts out of a '70, 3 point belts out of differing year Pigs all use a 7/16" by 20 pitch!

The shoulder anchors in my '74 Pig and the floor anchors all fit these 7/16" x 20 hardware.

An old-timer that I was working on the Pig with thought the Pig retractors looked like a US make. When I told him about the non-metric fasteners, he thought Toyota was sourcing them from a supplier that was supplying everyone...

TIA,

Bump on this question - is there a left and right side retractor?

Here is what I have, all three part numbers end in "R" and it looks like the shoulder mounts are all for the passenger side.

Pablo,

I'm bringing this thread up again. Did you ever figure out your belts. I'm thinking you're wanting to bolt the upper mounts in the pillars, instead of, middle of the windows.

Before mine gets painted, I'd like to try to put a fixed nut in the upper pillars, so you could bolt them there. I know some have done it, but haven't seen pictures of how they did it.

You would have to snake a nut and plate up or down the pillar to the right spot, then weld it in.

Any thoughts?

I went with some period-correct adjustable (not retractable) 3-point belts that i got from riderjgs. I used the mounting locations in the roof rail, above the rear doors. They work alright.

I think if you wanted to put a mount in the B pillars, you would want to weld the nut to some steel plate (maybe 3" x 3", or 2"x4") and then snake that plate w/ nut into the B pillar and then weld that in so you don't pull the nut through the sheet metal of the pillar in the unfortunate event that you need those belts.

I have seen 2 different 55s from Oz that do have 3-point seat belt mounts in the B & C pillars, but cannot find any documentation about the difference between the Oz Pigs and the ones we got here in the States...

Also, FYI, the factory retractable 3-point belts found in our Pigs use a different latch, or receptacle, than the adjustable 3-point belts or the standard lap belt.

I realized I did not have any of those latches. :frown:

Pablo,

I never cared for the shoulder belt location, going through the back window and mine is at the right stage, to take this on.

Shouldn't be too hard, just getting the plate up the pillar, to the right spot, then weld in.

Midgainc,

I'm pretty much committed to the Corbeau seats. Waiting on some sample materials.

Thanks Guys,

Do y'all not feel that a pillar mounted belt will be too far forward, negating effectiveness or being a hindrance?

Any way that I have attempted to conceptualize the pillar mount, even based on a bench, the belt appears it wouldn't even cross my chest, but be in front of, even with the bench seat scooted as far aft as possible (based on measures).

I can't get a grasp on a pillar mounted rear seat, because I can't fit in the rear seat, but it appears to pose the same scenario of moving the mount forward to the pillar.

Curious.

I'm thinking that the option for me are the ABTS Extended Cab Ford seats, but see no way to retain the rear heater with, but still doesn't clean up the rear belt conundrum.

Guessing maybe they built a very different (or different enough) structure for the amby door Pigs?

Can any of our Aussie friends post up pics of naked B & C pillars?
