1/2 inch hole drilled into sheet metal backing plate behind it holding a grade 8 DIN hex nut.......12mm x 25 mm Hex head screw holds retrator mechanism in place.....you can see unfinished notch for the retractors positioning pin.......things left to do........spot weld the F....%#@&*()^&%$:mad:>:" hex nut to the backing plate; had to use the magnet about 20 times to pull up the F@#$^&%^$:mad: backing plate......make sure you file the burrs down on the notch for the retractors positioning pin......metal filings are sharp:eek:
belts are working well boxed and ready to send in the AM to Ssnake-Oyl....hope this can help others;

they look very nice, and affordable also; just wanted to keep it as stock as possible and was able to get a set of retractables from another mudder....dirty, rusty and pretty beat up but working nicely..sent them off this AM to Ssnake-Oyl........will see how they look when I get them back.....thanks again for the info;

Pablo; I think it is a 69 but am a bit uncertain cause a lot of things are missing including paperwork; got it as a parts truck...used the original seatbelt mounting holes that are tapped for a weird bastard size 11mm fine thread; got the idea of mounting the retractor part from Mile2 when he used the "B" pillar to mount the shoulder part base; I used it though to mount the retractor down low.......it does have holes tapped for rear and front cross shoulder belts.....all the 74s and later that I have seen have these tapped also...........:hhmm:pretty sure they are original as I cannot even source the 11 mm fine thread hex screws;:cheers:

Lou

Pablo.........for the front seat belts........just behind the "B" pillar where there were holes already tapped for the 11 MM screws; there are also tapped holes behind the rear door opening where a shoulder strap for the rear seats would attach; I opened the holes and placed the backing plate at the bottom of the "B" pillar....using Mile2 suggestions..........just used the already existing tapped holes to attach the "pivot" part of the 76's shoulder strap behind the "B" pillar in the door opening........not a problem:banana: and fit beautifully:wrench:..you schould not have a problem as I believe you have a 74!:cheers:

I put Chevy Silverado seats in the front, they have built in shoulder units and are really comfortable. Not sure about the rear, I need to do something about that too.

Funny reading that now..................cause I have figured it out :D

The belts I bought from an online seat belt place. The female receptacle is flexible and adjustable, so it tucks out of the way as needed.

The roll bar needed to be removable, so we tapped the top of the clamp for the seatbelt attachment. I prefer this over attaching it to the pillar, as I think the seatbelt falls more naturally across the body and is safer.

:meh:

Nat; your solution is:clap: lovely......... just having to work with a :princess:CFOs ideas of priorities:hhmm:..........OK with repairing seatbelts but a "cage":bang:...awsome the way you have the "net" rigged for cargo/pets:D
Pablo; i just cut the notch with a eyeballed straight up and down orientation; did no tgive it a rearwards twist and it worked well without any binding........the later pigs have a clip that holds the retractable part of the belt in an easily accessable position.........am looking for a couple of pillar clips but for now am happy with the way they are working:cheers:

ssnake-oyl refurbishmente

Got a call this AM from Jason at Ssnake-oyl regarding the 76 retractables that I sent for refurbishing.......they cannot refurbish the retractor part:bang:........they are working beautifully after use of Kroil oil but the ain't purty :frown:.........any suggestions are welcome on refurbishment or cleaning them up!

Lou

Harry...Jason told me they could not work? on the retractable part although they seem to be functioning well.....they would have to dissasemble it to reweb the belts:frown:........:hhmm:wondering how to clean them up so they will look nice along with working well...they really do look rough....when you restore one thing then others look worse:frown:
Lou

Lou,

Sorry they were a dead end. FWIW the did a commendable job for me on the 78's - only one problem that being that they sewed one of the buckles on "backwards" so there's a twist in the belt. I could have sent it back but just wanted to get them in the truck.

72 shoulder seat belts

Did see a very low milage 72 this week at a gas station......with the shoulder straps seat belts; original but NON RETRACTABLE!; just a simple strap that clips.........the just hang down when not in use.........a PIA........used the same mounting bolts above the passengers doors and had the toyota labels with manufacturing date........did not have my camera:crybaby:.....interesting rig with a lot of Guam stickers on it, all red 3 speed and floor mounted TC shifter; first time I have seen another pig on the road except mine in these areas about 7 miles from the MS state line, wish I could have got more info but it was drizzling and the owner was in a hurry headed west...
