X2 on OEM

I tried the CCOT stuff (it sucked) and ended up buying OEM from Beno/CDan.

I got some CCOT channel I could sell you for cheap. :D

Can u guys tell me were I can get a door seal kit (which includes window whiskers) for my 1978 40 found a seal kit on cool cruisers but not sure about the lower seal included

I thought I remember from back in the day that there was a certain year (or year range) of window channel that you anted to buy for the 40 b/c they were some how better?

Any words to the wise on what year channel to buy? These are for my '78.

The consensus is that OEM are better than aftermarket for window channels. Never heard of a certain year being better; so long as you get the '75 and up you should be okay for a '78.

I did some research on that. The later model 40s (into the '80s I think) had the rubber wiper instead of the whiskers (felt). They took a different clip if i recall which needed square holes instead of round.

I could be wrong on the reason, but I decided to stay with the correct year pieces.

There is lots of stuff on here, but you need to drill deep to find it.

Okay, I am finding evidence of a early and late style for OEM channel.

Note: I am talking about channel that will fit my '78 doors. The doors with vent windows (12/74 and earlier?) are obviously different.

My '78 has a rigid style window channel w/ a chrome bead, and then sometime around 1980 it sounds like the factory switched to a rubber coated roll of channel that sounds just as fine and ships w/o damage much easier.

Sounds like I have the info I need to place an order with CDan.

I just ordered these same parts for my 78 and was wondering if you had installed yet? I'm having a hard time finding a good thread on actually installing them.

When I redid my '78 I went with the new window guides that do not have the stainless bead. Very easy to install. I also think they look better. I also bought the newer outside felt strip that uses square clips to hold the wipe in and down. The way the newer outer window wipe works requires it to be held in a different manner compared to the older OEM. I cut the clips off and used 3M VHB double sided tape meant for difficult surfaces. I removed the old outer clip and cleaned the surface and applied a couple of coats of POR-15. My neighbor helped me hold the new outer felt in place as I removed the liner from the tape. This new outer window seal is far superior to the original OEM used on pre '79/80 FJ40s. All years use the same inside felt strip. I plan on posting some photos in my ROTW soon.
