Jeep top on a 40 (1 Viewer)

I have been sifting through threads here and can't find the answer I'm looking for


? Is can a jeep soft top be modified to fit my 40????

I found on on CL here for a hundred bucks

I don't have many options here and my old top is a pasta strainer

I have had tops made over the years here and junk!
Waisted cash.

Tiger top not an option due to import tax

I can get get a local to mod it cheap if it can be done.

Help me out as I don't need a $100 tarp to cover up something on the yard here

As far as I know, they are not the same dimensions.


Any decent shop should be able make a replacement top for your current one.

Squeeze a big block Chevy under a 40 hood
suspensions that are out of
this world and none of you guys has butcher a jeep top to fit a 40?

They are close that with 8" add on and nip and tuck they might work

I have always wondered about the HARD tops. Soft Tops are cheaper to get made at any auto interior shoppe.

as the owner of both types of vehicles the tops hard or soft are not even close .starting with a piece of canvas or tarp would be better .

CJs are a lot narrower. Too bad the fiberglass hardtops won't work-super simple and light. Wold be easier than putting on my Kayline.

My thought is I will have my shoe maker butcher it making it fit

Biggest problem is a cj is 4 inches narrower then a fj40, have one of each outside. So you would likely have to cut it down the middle and add 4 inches. Not hard of you have a good sewing machine.

4.5 fingers with his sewing machine will make it fit like a glove

Your right about 8" and 4" wide
Not using the bows just fit it to the cage

Forgot i had jeep bikini top someone left at the shop and has been covering the kids quad for the past couple years

Same material and s*** hands can buck this up for extra material and scab it in

I honestly don't see the point of using a jeep top. By the time all the work is done to modify it to fit, you could just buy a new tiger top. I would rather work on other stuff on my cruiser personally. But maybe it will be cool and easy. Prove me wrong if you can-but I imagine you will have to spend a lot of work modifying it and won't be happy with the end result.

Hi there,

I have contact details of a chap that sells OEM soft tops, if it was me I would go down that road and miss out the pissing about , but you are right they are not cheap and the price might make it not an option but trust me the quality is first rate.
