Have you ever seen the wheel wells like this? Martin tells me this is a standard Japan version like this. I have never seen it before.

Thanks, and sorry. It's not easy to find wifi spots in the Amazon rainforest you know... ;)

My LX has the interior liner as well except in brown

We're in the Guyana bush now. Spending time with the gold diggers. Huge old Bedford 4x4 truck all around here.

Some more images from Suriname:

Most people here have 2 cell phones as the competing providers don't play nicely together.

Adventurous greetings,

good stuff, as always!

Okay guys, finished with the Suriname images, now it's time to move on to the next "unknown" Amazon country: Guyana. You all might know Eddy Grant, well he is from Guayana, as a lot of other New Yorkers, so I am told...

We got off the ferry across the Corantyn River, drove a couple of minutes and saw this sign. Isn't that a great way to welcome visitors to your country?

The wedding girls. Somewhere downtown Georgetown, we spotted a group of high-heeled purple-dressed girls ready for a wedding. Would they pose with the Cruiser we asked!

Adventurous greetings,

How do Suriname and Guyana arrange the switch from driving on the right to driving on the left for visitors from Brazil, etc? Is it like they do it in much of Asia with fly-overs or like they do it in Africa with a small hand-painted sign and a sleeping bloke with an AK-47? I suspect I know the answer...

Are most of the cars RHD?

Actually coming from Brazil entering Guyana there is a bridge type of construction with lanes that cross over each other. Coming from French Guiana to Suriname, there is only a ferry, so thats easy. They have a sign when you leave the customs compound.

And yes, most of the cars in Suriname and Guyana are imported 2nd hand cars imported from Japan and therefor RHD and mostly automatic gearboxes!

That's great. I love the way they do it in Asia with the fly-overs. I've never done the switch in Africa, but I'd imagine it is entertaining.

Any pics of the transition point from Brazil? Do they sell the little stickers for your headlights like they do in France and England at either end of the Chunnel? I have one of those on my RHD-market BMW motorbike right now.

When I lived in The Bahamas, they had a lot of RHD Jap car which the called 'Expats' because they had been sold in Japan originally and brought to The Bahamas after being sold there. Australia used to do that but then became stupidly wealthy from selling dirt to China and no longer allows expats.

Josh

No pictures of that bridge I am afraid. But more on Guyana I Have:

Spend 4 hours covered in coolant under the car. We had a very small leak in the exit hose that I tried to solve for months. Now with the help of some pro's we succeeded.

Jungle roads are filled with these big Bedford trucks, when I ask how old they are, nobody actually knows...

:hmm:

We have a similarly high standard of design & build skills here in New Zealand.

This amazing beast is the only vehicle to have ever been designed and built here in any reasonable quantity:

Trekka.jpg

Now that would compete with a 40-series landcruiser, wouldn't it?

Sadly they're no longer made! :frown:

PS. There's definitely a similarity between the New Zealand "Trekka" and the Tapir don't you reckon Coen? (They're both so cute and boxy.)

You got the Aussies beat, Tom. All we seem to be able to do is build Holdens (Chevy) and Ford for other folks. Little do most Americans know that almost all of the American cop, taxi and government cars are built in Australia and were paid for using TARP funds!
