It's not too soon to be thinking about Cruise Moab yet. According to the ad in the latest Trails, the registration was supposed to be open today (Jan. 2nd), but it's not ready yet. Hopefully soon.
Who's planning to go this year? I'm interested in doing some fairly tough trails, and it's always more fun with friends. Anyone else want to get signed up for something like that? Here's some ideas:

Maybe Golden Spike - it's s fun trail, but a LONG day. Jon and I weren't off the trail last time until about 9:00 PM.
Hell's Revenge is also fun, but it fills up pretty quick on the registration.

I think we had the same thing last year. Ad in Toyota Trails says registration is open today but if so I could not find it. I want to do the overnight but it always fills up quickly. Does anyone know when registration REALLY opens?

I need some advice on trail selections. I'm really excited to come down to cruise moab this year and will be bringing a turbo'd HJ60 on 35's sprung under or a 4 runner in a zuki body again running 35's. Both will be locked front and rear. Both with winches and longs. What kind of trails should I register for. I'd also like to get into town early and do some more wheeling. Anyone else going a little early? This might help my driving skills for the later on....

I need some advice on trail selections. In years past, the CM folks have asked about lockers and tire size and it may actually limit your choices when registering. You mentioned 35's on either vehicle, and that's plenty big for any trail. The limiting factor for you may be driver experience. Since you've got lockers front and rear and a winch, then you're probably set for vehicle capability on just about any trail offered at Cruise Moab. However, driver experience is also necessary, and only you will know about that. I would Google Moab trails and you will get a feel for their difficulty.
From your signature line, both of your vehicles sound pretty interesting. I'm sure you'd have fun with either one in Moab, but your tail end on the 60 could be doing some dragging depending on which trails you run. For example, Golden Spike has lots of ledges (up and down), and I know the tail on my 80 drags coming off a number of those ledges, and I think the arse end of a 60 is even longer. As long as you've got a tough rear bumper and don't mind the sound of dragging metal over rock, you'll be OK.
If you are conservative on your driving experience on the CM registration pages then you won't be presented with the harder trails that your rigs are capable of running. Evan eluded to this but I wanted to make it very clear because some of the trails you see us talking about won't be in your selection list and you'll wonder why and think maybe those days are full for those trails.
ok cool. Hard to say how my driving is asI typically wheel on my own. I think I'll be ok on most of the medium trails and would like to try some tougher ones too. I still haven't decided on which truck....I love my wagon but am worried about flipping it. Other body damage doesn't matter but a roll woul be bad for me. My sammy gets beat and moab would be no different. I'd try everything in it. Its has a cage and will have some good body armour. IT also needs the most work and I don't have as much time behind the wheel of it....this makes me lean towards the wagon.....

there is something to be said for pushing yourself a little bit. not too much, but get out of your comfort zone by one step. there should be people around that will help you and once you complete a trail 1 step over your comfort, your confidence and skill go up much more. ask for help when you want it (a spot, or advice on a line, etc.) and go for it.

Very true. The first time I did Cliffhanger I did not have a good time. The truck was not the problem. My head was. I went back the next year with the intention of mentally conquering the trail and had a blast. Did it again last year too.

x 2. Feel free to ask for help. My times offroading wilh these guys, I overcame a lot.I am sure some can can tell you the first I had two wheels in the air, but I still went on. I even picked lines that some more "seasoned" guys did not want to take. I did get stupid and over confident on a climb, I did not ask a spot for, but I I know if i did, they would be there. I freaked out and left early. My loss to learn from them. I plan to make the Oct. trip.

Are there any thoughts on doing an overnight like last year in the Swell? Perhaps the Needles district of Canyonlands, or White Rim?
There will be two overnight runs this year from what I hear. Kurt and the Wasatch guys are going to be leading one and then IIRC the Rising Sun guys are going to lead one.

That is correct. Looks like the Swell and Kokopelli are the overnights.
I'm going to try talking Dad into taking the time off and bringing his 40 (it WILL be driving then)...

Spot on. We are planning yet another stellar Overnighter, the Lone Warrior Saloon will be back and we'll be touring some areas of the Swell we didn't see in '09 or '10
