Dang! Just stumbled on your build man, Congrats on your new baby and now you have a future assistant. Teach them while young and make it fun for them my son was my sidekick for most of his young life he's 19 now and had to drag him most of the time to help me unless it's his car having an issue. I just finished doing a HG on the 3.slow and just replaced the entire steering system the gear box is pissing out of the shaft and could use a rebuild or a seal. I will be checking your build from now on.

Thank you! I was instructed by a few to avoid trying to rebuild the steering box. If you haven’t already, I’d check out Redhead Steering, they’re great!

I have done a few gear box when I was younger and it's no fun not having the proper tools, I will check out Redhead I heard good things about their work. I was also looking into just resealing it if I could get a part from Toyota. If you don't mind sharing what was the total cost of your gearbox?

I’m sure they definitely sell individual seals

Redhead was right at $400. I think the core charge is right at $150 or $200.

Normally I’m not a very indecisive person. I had zero intentions of ever swapping out an engine. Life is simple that way. Especially with an IFS. Here’s the thing though, I’m also a sucker for peer pressure. I kept seeing the 3RZ thread pop up with new updates, and all the guys in it keep talking about how much fun they’re having. I can see my old guidance counselor Ms. Bell rocking an old school d.a.r.e shirt giving me a look of disappointment as I caved to the peer pressure this week. As the thread was updated with an oil pan with works with an IFS, it just so happened a 3RZ that showed up on Marketplace the same day a mere $250. It even has the rear sump pan, which isn’t exactly what I need, but it’ll help someone else down the line out. So holler at me if you need it.

This will be a long term project, several years worth, hoping my 22re doesn’t die from depression looking at its replacement in the meantime. My boy is 2 now, so maybe it’ll be done in time so I can drop him off at school for the very first time? We’ll have to see. Here’s an obligatory picture in the meantime.

I approve this message. Did you get the harness and ECM too?

After 2.5 years of hanging onto this center console, I finally found some nice bucket seats out of a 4Runner and ditched the bench. Probably my favorite thing I’ve done to this truck…so far. I never realized how much I slid around on that bench until I found myself planted. Super comfortable too, and the sub inbetween the seats isn’t concealed anymore, so it sounds much better also.

I’ll have to add a rivnut underneath each seat, and 4 to accommodate the center console. That’ll come later though, they’ll hole for now.

Got the engine torn down as well. Everything looks good except for the burnt valve the previous owner told me about.
I lucked up and ordered a used stand on Amazon that was missing an arm, and instead of shipping it back, I got the whole thing for free! It’ll live here for the next several months until I take it to a machine shop down the road.
