I don't think they converted. They just added more, cost me around $80 with the pressure test.

You probably should ask. I am under the impression that R12 is all but gone and is very expensive to purchase if you are lucky enough to find it in the first place.
Most A/C repair facilities haven't carried R12 for quite a while.

I guess on the AC when we say converted is there anything more to it then adding the other new Freon ?

So today I wired in my quick plug for 24v trickle charging. I ran a wire form the neg of the passenger side around and heat wrapped a connector.

I placed the plug right near the main battery on the side up as high as I could get it. I decided to keep it under the hood, as I get used to it I did not want to drive off with it plugged in .... So if my hood is up I know the charger is plugged in.

I also had a little fun as I was sweating and while I was tightening up the positive connector my wrench slipped and touched metal and the positive terminal and bang .. lots of sparks went flying.......

I didn't stand over the tech's shoulder while he was doing the work ( he really doesn't like that :D ) but I think the conversion involves changing some valves and perhaps a hose or two. My HJ75 is still running the old freon but if it ever develops a leak I will have to convert it also.

I check my receipt and it says R12 - $24 bucks, they are an old school shop and didn't even ask if I cared one way or the other. I wonder if a lot of AC shops are under pressure to convert because they will also make more $$... I meant save the environment...

I like your shop..... :)

As it turns out you were right..... :)
I found one A/C shop in my hometown that still has R12. I am headed there tomorrow to get my HJ75 serviced.

Well I thought I had my set belt issue solved by buying some LC 60 belts. I have to give Cruiser Yard props from being professional and quick on sending my order.

Unfortunately they don't seem to work. The belt mates with the buckle but will not hold the buckle in. I can pull and they pop apart. So close but no worky. I wonder if the ones I have to look for have to be top mounted buttons instead of side mounted buttons. o well .. looks like I will just go with after market lap belts.

Congratulations. I hope I can get my hands on a 70 series some day.

Thanks ! I am really enjoying it as long as both trucks are running and I don't have to do to much to either of them.

Soccer moble ...

Well I have not been able to off road it yet but it sure does a good job as a round town DD. My Kids Love it !

I have been working on cleaning the inside head liner and it is cleaning up real nice. (a little simple green goes a long way.) along with trim and other items.

I have noticed a hair line crack in the FRP top right behind the driver pillar on the side , is there anything I can do or should do to keep it from cracking more ?

OK , so its been getting a little cooler here in Ga. and this morning Rojo on start up burp up some black smoke and then some fuel or oil came out tail pipe (little drops) . I glowed up like I have been , I did mess with the idle a little the other day could this have caused this ? After this and once warmed all was fine and ran just fine no smoke.

thanks for the input.

For you non residents, cool in Georgia means anything below 95 degrees (F) .....
I agree, it's just soot and condensation. No big deal.

P.M. Sent .....

Question...now that you've had it for a bit, what do you think of it as a DD? Just curious as I'm considering my next vehicle purchase. My son will be ready for a rig in a couple of years, and I might give him mine and shift into something different. After 3 Pinzgauers and 1 Unimog, I'm used to driving something out of the ordinary.

^^ - Well as a DD I think it is really working well. I have two kids and take them to school each morning and then off to work. ( One is still in a booster seat ) They love it but are old enough to get in out out by themselves. coming from 4 doors I was concerned at first with them getting in to the back seat. In the BJ73 / 74 there is a ton of room behind the driver seat and the rear seat. Much more room than a 2001 jeep wrangler has. (I did some comparison to a 2001 jeep wrangler yesterday for size). Also there is real space behind the rear seat , enough to put a cooler.. way more room then a older jeep wrangler has (way more). Again the length of the BJ73/74 I think is just about perfect ! It seems to ride really well and does not suffer from bucking like some leaf spring trucks I have ridden in. a note I am also running upgraded shocks and maybe springs. I think the 3B engine also seems to be a good match for this size but I don't live much above sea level and I could see if I was having to drive some steeper inclines a turbo would be desired. It really is unique and almost everywhere I go people take several looks because they have never seen one and the snorkel round pre filter catches the eye.. I have not been off road in it yet but I am planning a solo run soon to do some light wheeling / exploring. When I do a comparison to a 1976 FJ40, 1979 BJ40, 1996 80s, 1999 100s which I have owned and driven all , the BJ73 so far is my favorite to DD.

Well , I have taken Rojo to the crew at ACC to get some love'n and parts from LOWE Toyota ! First its all fluid changes , clean up engine bay , radiator service and a little powder coating magic on air box and fan shroud to make it look nice. Of course once I get her back I will post photos.

Next will be front axle service (I have a leaky knuckle) and I am thinking of putting an auzzie locker in the front while that's being done.
