Unfortunately a fairly common issue with many 70 Series. The culprit is often the seam at the base of the windshield ( where the windshield folds forward ) and silicone will often correct the issue. My HJ75 also leaked around the small vent windows but I can't tell from your photos if your Cruiser even has those. The felt on the bottom of the factory floor mats holds water like a sponge and can be a real problem.

Yeti, what a nice rig. i just spotted one here in my area. and immediatly fell inlove with it. the guy drove it from Guatemala, and is looking to work on it. it is a 1989 bj73 lhd regular gas truck. i think my next quest is to find me one. AWESOME TRUCK!

Thanks ! I think we here in the states have an obsession with the ones we never got. I am looking forward to building it out more and taking the top off later this summer !

Finally got around to doing some clean up work on Rojo. I removed the rear flares in search of rust and to clean the mud out from between and behind the lip.

How does she look ? pretty clean I would say.

So what are everyone opinions , should I keep the flares off or put them back on ?

I like flares .. the issue is you would need to repeat this operation frequently to ensure there is no MUD / Rus building there ..

The 70 Series is notorious for wheel arch rust ..... there is no need to encourage it.
My .02 worth..... :)

When the flares were removed from my BJ71 ( now sold ) there was significant rust.
Unfortunately to the naked eye the wheel arches looked rust free until the flares were removed. Unless you plan to remove the flares on a regular basis so you can inspect this area, the downside may outweigh the upside.

Wow ^^^ that was a nice one.. Yea I think I will leave them off for now as I don't want to worry about it. Plus one of them does not line up that great and would require more holes to be drilled..

on to find my missing rear seat belt female plug. Anyone know if any other toyota trucks (like a older 4 runner or FJ60) that the female part would work with existing land cruiser shoulder belts ??

I would suggest you contact Onur ( Beno ) at the number below.

24 charger

Well I got tired of disconnecting batteries when letting Rojo sit to keep them trickle charged. We have had a string of bad weather days and possible hail. I went ahead and got a 24 volt charger to keep the batteries fully charged. This thing seems to be able to do much more and has a feature to try and recover a battery that wont take a charge. That in it self may pay for it self.

I will be wiring it in as a quick disconnect. Each line has fuses and seems to be very well made. It has several modes and can still do 12 volt duty also.

I would like to see your battery charger wiring when you are done.
Thanks

How long does your truck sit between starts? Or are you be very attentive to your batteries?
I ask since I am spending a lot of time on travel so my 70 has been sitting a lot without issue. So is there considerations that I am not accounting for?
Thanks

PS Since I have 6volt, 12volt and 24volt starting systems, I purchased a battery charger that can handle these various voltages for charging and jump starting. I have forgotten the price, but we got it amazon well below all other prices available.

So far my longest sit has been 1 week due to rain and storms, but during that time I was listening to the radio in the garage while hiding out from the wife. I didn't have an issue starting but I guess I am being more careful as trying to jump start a 24 v truck might be an issue away from the house. When I connected the charger it showed I was at 25% which may indicate a slow drain most likely from the radio being directly wired with 12 v drop down.. I also have mismatched batteries and when I am driving I am only going about 8 miles to work so not a lot of charge time. Along with that I have really liked using trickle charges to maintain full charge.

I am now cruising in the world of cold AC !! Finally got around to getting my truck over to a little place near me that does AC and Radiator work. Funny little story :

When I got over there I cranked up the truck and turned the AC on full blast but the fan and compressor did not turn on ... We spent the next 20 mins poking at things and trying to figure out why the compressor + fan would not come on ... It would turn but would not engage. After almost giving up I went back into the truck and pressed the only button left I had not hit.... the one with a snow flake on it .... It turned blue and the compressor and fan magically came to life..... I had thought that was for defrost ..:bang:

They charged the system added some dye and off I was with cold AC. :hillbilly:

So I assume you don't have the rotary style on-off / thermostat switch?
