One step forward, two steps back...had mice in our new travel trailer after the dealer worked on it, so I dropped and re-sealed the entire underbelly over the last couple weeks. Nobody does good work anymore 😕

Got after grinding my donor rear 60 axle today, worked hard and just trying to get good progress rather than indecision paralysis, yeah no.

So I have 2 donor axles, one had the 3rd out already so it was my choice, plus it looked less rusty than the other housing.

And here is the problem, both sides of the tube are paper thin where the spring pads came off.

So I’ll repeat on the other housing and hope for better results. 🤞🏻

Got started on disassembly today and it’s already fighting me because all the 3rd nuts are so rusty they didn’t take a socket...had to torch/vice grip all of them. Will be needing more hardware for re-assembly for sure.

Hoping housing #2 looks better than that one🤞

IIRC, you’re planning to inboard the perches to match the springs on the 55, which comes out to 2+ inches on each one, which would still put your new perch location in the vicinity of the old ones. Too sketchy to inspire confidence.
At least you’ll have some spare axle shafts!👍😃

Tackled stripping the other axle this afternoon, just rough cut all the brackets to see how it was. Rain let up long enough to get a start grinding on it and it’s only got one small thin spot. But other things on it were more rusty, backing plates fought coming off and pumpkin will need all new/different studs & nuts.

So mentally skipping to another task, mounting the 62 PS steering box & a Saginaw pump.

Being 74 my alt is lower DS and the stock air cleaner snout is above it...I’d like to mount the pump high on Pass side to avoid moving all that around.

Anyone seen a mount for that side?

1.5F is gone and it has 2F in it but near as I can tell all externals are the 1.5F accessories...so not sure what mounting holes are available. Good news is the crank pulley has a 2nd unused groove.

Hope everyone had a great Fathers Day, we had both families over, first time in over a year.

Took a day off work with the express purpose of Pig time, not getting any progress otherwise it seems.

Hours of grinding on the hottest day of the year so far, then headed inside (shop is nice & cool) and pulled all the damaged studs and the donors from the other housing. Chased all the threads and wire wheeled them, now soaking in rust converter.

Son came out after dinner and we pulled the rear seat, heading for upholsterer this week (I hope)

Might get a water pump coming, anyone recognize if this is the original 1974 1.5F pump or the 75 2F pump?

Well, I’m looking for another PS box, rebuilder took a look at my donor box and said “junk”

Hope to find one at our club meeting coming up here on the 15th.

No real progress, finally managed to get the uphotery dude to let me in line, hope he does it right.

He has a fleet of low riders, while not my personal jam they all have a high level of detail.
