Got a question...have had zero luck with this on two previous attempts.

I have a leak between the transfer case and speedo housing.

I have gotten a new speedo housing that's machined out and double oil sealed.

But I can't make this connection seal up. Get a drip from the seam.

Both surfaces are clean and smooth. Paper gasket only has leaked both previous times I've tried it.

RTV red gasket maker in addition to the paper seal maybe?? I have two paper seals...use them both??

Really don't want to do this again.

No double gasket only a single thicker one if ever needed.

Does the thread bolt holes go into the case? If so are you using sealant on the bolt threads?
Could the leak be your speedo sending unit itself?

I was wondering if the bolts are too long and bottoming out before tight.

Think I'm gonna do single gasket with thin rtv on both sides.

No, bolts don't go into housing. It clearly leaks at seam.

Use a thin coat of ultra Grey fipg on both sides of gasket.
By this you mean the Permatex Ultra Grey stuff right? Just want to be specific...

I wouldn't use the gasket, just Permatex Ultra Gray. make sure the surfaces are totally clean, zero oil on them.

Thanks all. I know this is a basic deal, but I'm not totally new at this. Have done lots of this type stuff. This one joint however, has been the bane of my existence lately...

Here is one last thought. There is the potential that the case itself is cracked but the oil appears to coming from the output. I once saw a cracked case that was weeping oil but still together and the owner couldn't figure out WHY it was leaking. It wasn't apparent until it was very clean.
