Is that the raw leather cover on the center console or the black vinyl? That looks great!
It’s the black vinyl. It has about a 1/4” dense foam beneath it so I think it’ll be comfortable. I debated doing the grey or black console. Glad I went with grey, I think it looks great in there.

Scratch that idea on the radio, location. It'll get in the way of the Ebrake and beverages.

More fitment pics for those interested. Cup holder mount in the rear is positioned just right so that when the rear seats are folded forward the seat rests just barely above the cup holder.

Think I'm going to do the front cup holder then the Delta loc 6x2 plate on the back and mount my 2m radio there?

I'm sober now after looking and loving late last night and still looks great!!
Good plan. I think I'm going to mount my radio back in my Wits End rear quarter panel mount that Delta now makes. I was one of the lucky ones that had my order filled before things went south. Still haven't installed it yet which is about normal for my schedule.

It been like 500 below zero last two weeks here in CO so shop time has been very limited awaiting thaw.

Thanks again for the pics!

Welp, I just didn’t like the baserack on the 80 either. It’s a bummer. Love the function and construction of it, but their wind deflector is just terrible. I usually really like ARB stuff, but the design of that deflector is a flop. Considered making my own fairing. I bought the largest platform for the 200 and it’s just a bit too long to use on the 80 and create an effective fairing - at least the way I figured it would work.

So, I ordered a @Delta VS roof rack. It arrived in two days. Thanks Dave! Took it 2 hrs to the nearest town that had a powder coater and had it matched to my bumpers. Turned out pretty good I think. This is the full rack with two load bars.

Used some POR15 chassis black for the bolt heads and they are a pretty good match. I mounted the top bolts on the brackets backwards so I could have the black carriage bolt heads out for a cleaner look. They were a pain to tighten until I assembled the right tool configuration. Delta’s rack design and construction is too notch. I didn’t weigh the two but also felt much lighter than the baserack.

Just need to plan and install some lighting.

Looks awesome. I have the same rack. Think I was one of the first to get it.

Can you comment on the steering feel of your truck? Since you went from a smaller tire to 35s and now looks like 37s? How hard is it to steer?

I’m on 33s right now but I have to go to a 35 since I regeared it. Man it feels like I have little to no power steering as is and fear 35s would steer even harder. Is this common on an 80?

I have all new suspension and steering components, new redhead steering gear with 105 shaft etc. just wasn’t sure if this is normal. My 100 with the same tires steers way easier.

No complaints at all with my steering. Seems to be just fine with 37s. I mean, not as nice as my 200, but then 200 also feels heavy compared to modern electric power steering.

Steering should turn 35-37 with ease !!

That’s interesting. I wonder if our perceptions of “steering with ease” are just different? I get it that it won’t steer as easily as a Camry but then again I’ve been in my LX and GX470 with the same sized tires as my 80 and both the newer lexuses were FAR easier turning.

I guess I should mention I also took the front axle apart when I installed new third members, and installed new wheel bearings, repacked the knuckles with grease as recommended 2/3 full. I haven’t put any real miles at all on it since the rebuild, just driving around the parking lot/street when I need to move the car around. I’m fixing a bunch of leaks on it at the moment before I do any real driving.

You guys think maybe the knuckle grease hasn’t expanded yet and maybe that’s why it feels hard to steer? Harder than any Toyota/lexus I’ve ever been in. It feels similar to old BMWs (E46/E39) and less hard to steer than an old NSX which had no power steering at all.

Your 40 is side eying your new toy. Looks like it wants some love as well.

Just before I added 37s, I regeared and rebuilt the axles at the same time. It didn’t feel harder to steer initially after the rebuild on mine. I probably have 3k miles since the regear. I’m a little baffled why yours feels harder to steer. I’ve had quite a few older cruisers over the years, maybe I’m just used to it. Sorry wish I had some answers for you.

Yes, that’s a 1982 I didn’t necessarily need (have a 79 already) but it popped up locally for a decent deal so I grabbed it. Runs awesome, low miles. Just needs some rust repair on the rear. It’ll work its way into the shop soon. Some replacement Oem parts have already started accumulating for that one.

Thanks for responding. I wonder if this adjustable steering damper thing has any effect on the actual steering feel? I gotta turn the dial and see if it effects anything and how the steering feels?

^^^ This IMO that's the issue or part of it 😜
