if you are talking about the pinion on a 80', i noticed this needs a puller that is really skinny. I have a base to make this puller, but don't have one now. We can probably fab up something unless anyone has this puller already.

No need, the PHH is just a heater hose off the side of the block that is a real bear to get to and replace, but if it fails could be a real problem...not an easy roadside job. Thats why it has been dubbed "Pesky Heater Hose" or PHH. And the rear axle seals are just paper seals on the axle flange, may do that this week sometime though. Thanks for the pre-planning though, I appreciate that.:wrench:

So, the new rig I have has a small leak..... this is 24 hours sitting.... looks like it is coming out of a couple spots. One looks like the oil pan. Don't know how.... as this has not run in a week.

If this is power steering, PO told me about it. If not then it is just another thing to remind me that I am too trusting.

I will be watching you as I have heard about that hose! Sounds like a good candidate for replacement.

While we are talking about parts, I am headed to Molle on Wednesday if anyone needs me to pick up parts.

Also, with the rain schedule, and the frame swich-a-roo, I will likely not go to the sandblaster this week.

Amanda said there is a rump roast in the freezer at the house I can bring if that is any good for smoking? If not, what would be good to bring? She said she'll pick something up at the store this week.

soonerfan said that those don't smoke up all that great. However, he said that he could make just about anythign, including my old leather boots taste pretty good on a smoker.

Anybody have any deer sausage?

if you all need a molle pickup remember i'm about 3 min from their door here at the office.

Kelly, i'd clean it pretty good, then look for the drip.. if it's oil it's darn clean! Should have ATF in the powersteering per spec.. whatever it is it's pretty clean and thin.. makes me think powersteering.
i've been known to use flour to find leaks. you can get the flourescent additive as well and the little pen light at the parts store.. just never tried that for anything other than AC jobs.

Think i might stop by harbor freight on way home tonight and pick up a few more spot weld drillbits. Hoping the gas kit for the new baby welder (it's cute!) shows up.. If it does I"m probably going to set Colin on converting it to gas.. I picked up a baby Lincoln 110v mig last week. Which should be PERFECT for bodywork.. it's a hassle to swap out everything on the big machine so figured this is a simple solution. Considering the big machine is like 200 amp and 60% duty cycle and this is like 100 amp and 20% duty.. Like i said it's a baby.. like a mini-me welder..

Colin, i'll look in the paint storage for some rust oleum hard hat black i used on the trailer do we need to bring with? I"m excited i'm now off the part time job till may, Last night was last night for a while... Finally got my demotion.. Kelly is pretty much done with taxes and it's time to wrench!

and kelly.. happy day after tax season!

Do Colin and i need to bring our own coffe maker? I can pack the ARB for the other stuff..

lemme look in the freezer.. not sure if i have much left of anything bambi related other than burger but did see some small packages of tenderloin in there. we ate all our cow we had.. If i have any deer sausage it'll be like summer sausage type stuff. i'll look. used to have a ton!

Think I saw some mallards in there.. And I think there is some wild boar sausage meat in the freezer as well.. If i had time this week i'd go get a bird but that'll have to wait a week.. I know there's one frozen deer i need to grind up and that would include big cuts including rump roast, which i normally just grind.. was lazy this year and cut it out to grind later when i had time.

I don't think we'll be putting any paint on that frame, it's supposed to rain all weekend. Also, I won't be to the point of doing any plasma cutting on the bumper this weekend, so I'm free to work on whatever. I can help getting your 40 road ready or try to track down the leak on the new rig, or any other help needed.

I'll bring coffe, I know Erik and I will go through it.

Rain? Really? Ok.

i'm gonna make an offer here.. Kelly, I have a HUGE portable garage i'd like to donate to the club.. Thing is I don't want to store it anymore, we can bring it along to use over the weekend, it has all sides and doors and can store at least 2 trucks in it. It would free up valuable space in my small garage and provide a couple spots to work outside if it is indeed going to rain.. looks like Friday is the worse day for rain according to the forecast.

Kelly you have a chop saw? I can use the plasma if needed.. And I need some scraps of angle iron. I've got to weld up gussets inside the cab of the 45 before i remove the quarter panel.

UPDATE:

FOOD: Pork shoulder feeds a lot for cheap. I'm also glad to smoke something or bring it raw if doing it during the day for dinner. I could also chip in for buns, sides, etc.

TIMELINE: I have to go home Friday night. Son has a Scout deal at 9 AM and daughter has a soccer game at 10 AM. I can come back in the PM as needed to help, etc.

Whats it taste like?

Matt..... Tastes like chicken! But doesn't everything.

Sorry, I have been playing all day, cleaning and attacking the list. So lots to answer.

Yes I have a chop saw and just got a new blade from Soonerfan. I have also gotten really good at cutting out welds, so we can test our methods.

As far as rain is concerned, I have space for 2 rigs in my workshop (that will give Erik plenty of room for his work) and two more in the other garage, so the rain does not scare me much. Erik- you can bring your mobile garage too. (I rolled my rustbucket out today, and will roll the 75' out on Friday)

On axles, the front on my 97 lx450 was really rust free, so no need to take it to the sandblaster. I am planning on pulling it tomorrow and getting it on the bench to do the first rebuild... the learning one.

On the meat, I like all the ideas. I think the smoking will take place on Saturday for lunch and dinner. I will text Soonerfan if he likes any ideas (delegation) and heckle him into posting. On friday we can make hot dogs on the fire pit, or eat inside if the rain comes.

I am thinking about getting a pony keg of boulevard single wide to supplement my home brew, just have to find a place that carries it in stock. Which leads me to ..... if any are planning on camping here (read.... plan on not walking straight) if the rain comes, we have a guest bedroom, another we can quickly set up as a guest room and plenty of floorspace.

oops, forgot angle iron. I have some scraps of angle, not a lot right now. Anything I have you can use. I am pretty sure that I still have the x brace I made for the door area of my Tub a couple moons ago. Let me go look what I have.

Disappointing morning.....

Went out this AM before the kids woke up and found a puddle of oil under the 68' FJ. I had filled up the steering gearbox with 90 weight yesterday and it leaked out. appears to be coming from the side cover.

Erik- if memory serves me you would have a fsm for this vintage? I think that we have to remove the front clip to get it out, so I am hoping we can just pull the oil cannister ( to make room to work) , then pull the side cover off (in place), clean it up, reseal rtv it and hope for the best. Any thoughts? I guess I should go pull it loose now to get all the rest of the oil out.

Colin- just to confirm that you are bringing those seat mounts for the tracker seats.... I am scratching my head on why my center mount is not working...

Erik- I found my angle iron x bracing for the doors. also found some scra*s that I had forgotton about.

I can look, can't remember if i have that FSM or not. this is on the column shift one? your keeping it manual right?

Food and such

Sorry I have been out of the loop. Life has changed a lot with a 2 week old in the house. Hardly getting any sleep at all.

Bring whatever you guys want to throw on even if you just want to smoke something and take it home.

I have done a roast before and they are OK, great if you slice it thin and throw it between a couple pieces of bread.

I plan on hitting up Sam's on Friday night and getting ribs and chicken legs and probably some suasages, stuff that does not take too long. If you guys want a shoulder or butt I can grab that too. I will probably have to turn the reins over to someone for dinner. I have in-laws in from California and the wife is already given me the evil eye and i havent even left yet. Throw me ideas of what else you guys want. I will bring homeade BBQ sauce and Beans as well.

Thanks!

To Kelly and Soonerfan - I am ALL IN on beer and food for FRIDAY!!! Just let me know what we owe and am glad to dish out $$. I will warn you, I can drink some beer now - a by-product of being part of mug-clubs and riding scooters.

Is it too late to add one more? Not been online much recently and just saw this yesterday. I've got to do a front axle rebuild on a '97 LC and this seems like a great opportunity to get some guidance along the way.

I'd be available Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. Sunday's a little iffy and it wouldn't be until later in the day.

I've ordered parts from Dan and Molle since I need them anyway. I think I have most of the tools and supplies. If there's room, what else can I contribute to the effort?

Thanks,
Rick

progress

Well, we have a test subject ready for teardown and rebuild. Erik- should I tear it down before folks get there? I can't clean it until you show up with the parts cleaner..... Maybe tear down one side?

Brake rotor looks great, hardly a line on it, so I will not replace.

One goof up. I could not get the elocker connector off, and forgot when I dropped the axle out and now I have to fix something.....

Axle, I sent directions to you. Depending on the weather, you may be in a seperate garage....

Also, not planning on any Sunday activities, as the deal with the wife was that I was hers on Easter.
