Some of the things that would be a turn off as far as I'm concerned. I have not commented on the drive train but it would not be my choice.

Foam is a moisture catcher, not something you need with a '55, what's the POR15 covering?
We have no idea what kind of foam he is talking about. Considering the entire body was coated in por-15 and the fact he has A/C makes me think rust is not an issue. But I have no idea.

This all takes away from the vintage feel of the '55 and the sun roof is another potential rust problem due to leaks.
So if the sun roof was installed by Chip Foose there would still be a problem with rust?

Could he not find the original ones? I've seen a '55 with '60 series tail lights and it wasn't pretty in my book. It may all be very well done but I'm a sucker for having a "sleeper" (all OEM in appearance but with an upgraded drive train).

I like the originals also but something about going down to the Toyota dealer and picking up two brand new lights is apealing to me. Considering our parts are used and the one part that is actually made for them is less than perfect.

Based on the description/pics, I don't see that being a $30k rig... especially one that has a plain old carbed V8.
No clue as to who built it and what parts it may or may not have. I've seen some carbed v-8's go for a lot of money.

"3 inch custom exhaust with glass packs = modern car quiet":censor::rolleyes:
Yeah I'm not buying that either. Maybe quiet at idle but not when you stomp on it. But then again I have never heard it run.

"Factory tinted glass". Wasn't aware this was an option but I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

Good idea because it was an option

Some of the work sounds cool... FJ60 rear sliders for example.

But by and large, not my cup of tea and not for that price.

I'm still a fan of simple stockish feel/look.:meh:

Lol you have got to be kidding me. That's the pot calling the kettle black. There is nothing simple about your 55. Go open your hood, go sit in your front seat, and go look at your tires and rims. Besides the rear windows and the rear tailights and sunroof your vehicles are basically the same. Not that I don't love what everyone does to their vehicle.

How about looking at the glass as being half full instead of half empty. How would you feel if you were having to sell your pig and someone linked to your ad from a forum that anyone can easily see, doing nothing but bashing something you put your heart and soul into. Some of you have been spending to much time in the 40 section. We are pig owners. We are all a special breed.

Have to admit. It looks pretty damn good. Love the rear windows. Hell of an idea

I'm not saying it's poorly done, just not my idea of what I would do. At what point does a '55 cease to be a '55? I'm not saying that has happened here, I'm just asking the question. The pictures on the listing are rather dark to be useful in deciding how well things were done.

I'm not saying that my truck is not modified, nor am I implying that my truck might be worth $30,000, but if you were to see it on the street there is no way to know that it is modified, other than the lift. I have made sure, and worked hard to keep it as OEM as possible but with, what I consider, a better drivetrain.

I look at things like the "custom" grille or '60 tail lights as a sign of a person too lazy to search out a decent original part and I think those things take away from the "feel".

I think you have to agree that a sunroof, especially an aftermarket one, has a much higher chance of leaking that no sunroof regardless of who installed it!!

oy. seriously, who cares? what's wrong with customizing your rig until it looks like a fxxxing tomato? personally, i just ripped apart my entire dash. i pull my s***ty pad off, and all the other bullsh!t. i'm going to replace a bunch of stuff with carbon fiber, and i ordered haneline gauges, and very soon, there will be LCD screens in the dash hooked up to more sh!t (cause i program r0b0ts for fun), telling me all kinds of fun stuff (compass outside temp, maybe a weather service one, etc.). i'm going to drop in a GM steering column and get rid of all the stupid toyota mess (hazards, windshield wiper controls, etc.).. but you know what? it'll still be a pig. and a damn cool one at that. i think $30k is a lot too. but it's a cool rig, and i really wish i knew more about the mods.

he sent me a picture of his dash today and it looks pretty cool. maybe not my thing, but he did a good job.

those that think the pig should still be stock, or a "sleeper," or whatever, fxxx off. seriously. that's your preference, and it may not be other people's preference. personally, i think some of the design/engineering decisions made by toyota were crappy (even for the time), so why not improve them. it's fun. and it's definitely in the spirit of preserving these things.

i think that regardless of what is done, it's still a pig. you also hear beauty is in the beholder. i don't understand the 60 series windows, but i don't mind em. i don't like the 60 taillights. i don't like the aluminum rims. that's my taste. not ranting, but people need to be able to handle the criticism, especially if they're posting their rig in a public place.

No ones arguing, if you want to change it all to something totally different, "fill your boots"! It's not a rig I'd be interested in owning!

As for totally stock '55's, I doubt there are many left, mine's NOT one of them.

I'm out!!

hm. mine is out the side too. just under the rear driver side door, in front of the tire. exhaust goes right around and in the back window. :(
Howdy! If you have air coming in the from vents or front side windows, it should blow out the back window. My exhausts are right in front of the rear tires, and I have no problem with this. This setup worked good on my FJ 40 also. John

Howdy! So if he invested $60 grand, and does sell it for 30, it makes me wonder why? Is there something wrong with it, does he need a fresh project for entertainment, or does he just like to loose money, maybe he does it as a tax writeoff?? A lot of work and money went into this rig, so why sell it? John

I like it a lot. I'm trying to keep mine stock(ish), but I really like the look of it. I wouldn't pay $30K US for it though. Well, if I had more money that I knew what to do with I would!

Yeah I'm going to agree about the dash. In a boat I would be drooling all over it. It's done nicely. But in a 55 it's the only thing I didn't like. The stock original dash on a 55 is probably one of the best looking parts on the whole vehicle. It really doesn't need to be touched. Only mods I like to it are the new round gages that people mount behind the stock pad. Even then I think they need to be black though.
Mine. Stock and beautiful.

As far as the rest of the vehicle. I have to say I think it's worth the price he is asking. The interior alone had to cost a small fortune. Look at the wrapping around the back windows and C pillars. Not an easy task. All the seals look brand new. The seats are really cool. As well they did a really good job on the door panels. I like how thick they are. Makes the door look beefy. Over all I think it looks damn good. If I had the cash to burn and wanted a good fun daily driver that would be fun to take off road I seriously look into buying it. Then I would put the original dash back in it and add TBI to the motor.

For 30K which we all know is not what the final price will be. I think it's on par with the 55 TLC put out and sold for 85K. Just take a look. Photos in Trollhole's 'TLC55' album
