Windshield Glass Replacement

So the windshield is next… one question for the class is: is it better to do it in the workbench or while the frame is on the tub.. : also, can one manage it?

If it as hard as putting the wx molding around the canvas doors.. I’ll just have to pay someone! Thanks up front guys

It’s really straightforward. Look up the rope trick on the fastest way to do it.

Install the gasket on the windshield while still on the bench. I used a few strips of masking tape to help keep it in place during install. I found it went in pretty easy using just a dull screwdriver and some soapy water: just work the gasket over the flange bit by bit. Installing the lock strip requires a special tool that is not expensive. I did the install solo in under an hour.

Just thought of another issue.. when I was driving it there was a milky kinda presence about 1 inch in between the layers of glass. I figured it was moisture migrating in because of its age.. so when I started renovating my beloved.. I noticed the milky stain was no longer there.. so could it have “dried “ out after being stored for several years.. and hopefully new wx stripping would prevent it from happening again? The windshield glass is fine.. no cracks or issues.. thanks!

(I wouldn't bother with anything but an OE Toyota gasket. Aftermarket window seals universally suck)

Just did mine a few weeks ago… very easy off the truck… however when putting it back complete like I did was very heavy with just me… but it worked out

I used an aftermarket gasket from Roger aka cityracer … great fit

Mine old windshield is cloudy in a small area and small corner crack as well … went in no problems

The lock is tricky without a tool but very doable one guy sooo good think you picked one up for me putting the lock took a bit longer then getting the glass set in

I took my old, cracked windshield to a local glass shop and they used it as a template to cut me a new one. I think they charged me $130 CDN.

Windshield is a windshield......its just flat (0.25"..irrc) laminated safety glass that any glass shop can cut.
