Got it....the issue I have is that the PO spray painted the WHOLE truck with Rustoleum and didn't mask anything off at all. So ALL the trim is painted....so I am stuck. Rustoleum is just NOT coming off at all....

Gotcha.. How much have you sanded on the window trim? Try and take a piece of 220 or 320 grit and fine sand this. The finer paper will clog up fast especially if the paint is Rustoleum. Maybe if you can get a good enough surface prep you can spray an etch/prime and black out..

Good luck

Thanks for the advice. What I have found is better and easier to do is but the replacement part from SOR and then prep and paint that....I hate to do that but the fact is that with the amount of time it will take to TRY and get the spray paint on, it is just not worth it. He didn't use regular spray paint. He used TEXTURED OUTDOOR FURNITURE PAINT.....so odds are it's not going to happen to even get a good enough surface to get it to smooth to repaint.

I used a 3500 psi pressure washer on the quarter panel to try and remove some of the paint. Tried EVERY tip possible on the washer. In 30 min's, I removed a 1x1inch spot. And not the texture part, just the color, the texture was still on the metal.

So I am writing it off as a no go on that part...lol

TEXTURED.... I've heard nasty things about the removal process on that stuff. I thought it was regular roll on or rattle can you were talking about. I've never dealt with the textured but, read on another forum about a guy soda blasting everything to make him happy and get it off before he could refinish his ride...

Update: The interior belt mouldings that were posted here are not black. They are chrome.

Just an FYI.

Is there an interior moulding that is black?

Time for some PAINTING!!! I really hate Chrome....

Does anyone know the following:

b7c8c6ff.jpg

A) Can I remove JUST this piece of chrome around the sides and upper part of the windows?

B) Does it need to be replaced with something else or is it just for looks?

C) If it needs to be replaced, anyone have any part numbers?

Thanks

That chrome can be removed without any adverse affects, same as the drip rail chrome. No replacement or filler necessary.

Drip rail chrome? As you can see PO painted EVERYTHING. So I have VERY few chrome looking pieces. So got a pic of drip rail chrome?

Thanks

One last thing, I assume the chrome part is the only part to remove correct? Just that 1/3 of an inch of chrome, NOT the piece farther back on the door also, I assume ?

There is no piece further back (unless maybe I misunderstand?). Just the window frame itself and the chrome. The drip rail stuff is just below your finger in the photo, runs along the top of the door skin. Yours is painted, of course.

Drip rail chrome is also know as the rain gutter chrome. Its the seam between the roof and the rest of the truck.

Well the concept of just pull it off easily does NOT apply to my cruiser.

I am pulling and pulling and it is NOT coming off. The pieces are ripping apart vs pulling off.

Sigh......

If it helps, I used a flat head screwdriver, put right in the curve around the door seam. A sharp rap and the thing would pop right out.

Well that worked well!!!! Mallet and flat head screwdriver and it came right off!!!

Then I TRIED to do the gutter chrome. Uggggg Started at bottom of the windshield....and after a few taps...I see this:

I dont think it is separating correctly. Maybe the paint bonded the two (the chrome and the actual gutter) together or something. So I tapped it back into place and stopped.

Any theories?

That looks to me like the chrome trim has been removed already :D I would stop hammering on your rain gutter.

Actually it hasn't been removed. If you look at the scratch in the bottom outside corner you can see the chrome. Plus I have checked randomly around the gutter, it is still there :)

For me it is the distain for the color that the PO sprayed on. So I am trying to remove or replace piece by piece before I have nothing left but getting the whole body done.
