:bounce: This is so freekin' cool to know the outer door seals are do-able without the SS/chrome strip. Just this week the little rubber end covers fell off a couple of my chrome strips leaving an ugly sharp edge.

Never have liked them. These doors were not meant to be fancy...just like the inner edge of the doors are meant to be an exposed painted surface. Reference britklr's rig.

I'm ordering these as soon as the holidays are done!

With my new body, Moonshine needed some new outside weatherstripping. I had these p/ns and was planning on doing the swap prior to this thread popping back up, but since it has, here are a couple of pictures:

Old on top, with the metal clips that go with it, new on the bottom

One distinct advantage of the new stuff is that the ends are sealed so that no moisture can get in to rust the metal strip inside. Half the reason why I needed new weatherstripping was because the metal strip was half missing due to rot.

Rear door trim. Plastic clips are easier to install into the door and won't scratch the paint.

New weatherstrip installed.

Bada$% that looks great man. I am so ready to replace all of my weatherstripping. Great job and nice thread!

I know this is resurrecting an old thread, but I wanted to give an update since I just completed this mod myself.

I have an 84 FJ60.

One of the previous posts was correct for the 60's about taking off the weatherstrip, separating the chrome (actually SS) covers and simply re-installing the window felts.

Mine however, were in poor condition, so a replacement was in order.

The pn#s for window felts for the 80-85 FJ60s are no longer available.

The felts for the 86-87 FJ60 are still available, and that is what is being discussed earlier in this thread.

I ordered the following parts from Ralph Hayes Toyota in Anderson, SC, who sponsors the Upstate Cruiser club and offers 25% off list for club members:

68180-90a01 (outside rear)
68230-90a01 (outside rear)
68160-90a02 (outside front)
68210-90a02 (outside front)

Total pre-tax was $61.68

These new felts are the same as the ones pictured above, and feature the plastic clips which are a lot less likely to scratch the paint and create a rust opportunity.

In addition, these felts also have a wider rubber seal, which helps cover any paint issues exposed be removing the chrome.

The only issue I have with this mod is that now, because the chromes (which had some additional rubber end caps) are now removed, there are some small gaps in the weatherstrip. I plan to fill those with black silicone once I finish some paint touch up.

Do you have any pictures of this gap you talk about?

Raising the dead!

Great thread.....thanks everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has the part numbers for replacing the INNER trim on the window?

I only saw the outside trim part numbers listed.

Thanks
DTT

D, look at post #4. It has the inner and outer numbers.

Toyotapartszone.com price for all 8 pieces is 145.66 plus shipping BTW...

I love it when a useful old thread resurfaces just when I am thinking about the subject. Kismet...

Can anyone confirm these are not chromed? CDan and myself were talking about the inners today and neither of us could in fact confirm that that were plain black. I might just order a set to see (and if black, install into my rig) :)

Beno, What do you mean by not chromed?it looks black from the pics.if you get some let us know on your findings.i would like to get mine replaced too.

Onur, I'll let ya know on the inners in a few days.. I ordered the inners a couple days ago. I never could get a good answer from my Yota parts manager in WY.. So, I'll be the guinea pig.. Let ya know.

Well crud - something else to order, just got my locking strip for the windshield, cargos and rear window and was planning to remove the window chrome this weekend and paint the chrome running the base of the window seal until I saw this thread. If I read correctly, these work on 62s and will seal the window appropriately without the chrome? I'm not blacking out the entire truck, just the window trim in hopes that will tone down the bling a bit.

The chrome running the base of the windows comes off and looks really good in the trash. pulled mine a while back no leaks and looks MUCH better. Keep chrome on Hardley's where it belongs.

On another note....anyone have any ideas or solutions for de-chroming around the windows?

Thanks

D, I de-chromed everything one mine. This chrome trim was a PITA to get off around the windows and I scratched my old paint up quite a bit. I didn't care because I was completely sanding everything down and repainting.

J

Is there a replacement black seal for the trim around the windows as there is the bottom chrome?

Thanks

D, I'm not aware of any in black. I know some guys have sanded this down, masked off, etch prime and painted black.

J

Got it....the issue I have is that the PO spray painted the WHOLE truck with Rustoleum and didn't mask anything off at all. So ALL the trim is painted....so I am stuck. Rustoleum is just NOT coming off at all....
