I do have the horns.

@stevebradford is bound to have a set or five in his “stamp collection”

At least on a ‘74 40, all the turn signals are wired through the hazard switch. If it is partway on or the connections aren’t good the turn signals won’t work. Sometimes cycling it on and off a few times will help.

Hop this helps… I know yours is only mostly a 40 series and things may have changed since’74.

Also check out “never underestimate the importance of a ground” in my signature line below.

Looking great!

From the description of your problem, i would start with the easiest things, making sure the dash has a ground, anf the indicator lights aren't burnt out.

After that i would suggest that you gave two options, either to try to correct the original wiring or just being bad some power for the dash but indicators.

If all you want is the missing indicators I would check if you have power at the switch or on the steering wheel and steal from there for a high beam indicator. I dont remember if the flasher is before or after the switch on the column, but either you can get power from there to the dash or just take it from somewhere further down the harness where the light blinks. 3 wires plus a ground, shouldn't be so difficult :)

Maybe...I'll check on sunday.

I do have the frame horns for mounting them if you don't.
The problem with robbing the high beam power from the steering column is that the head lights are 12 volt and the signals are 24 volt. Weird eh?

Yeah, 42's are like that too tho. One bulb off each battery I think is how they set it up.

Maybe 12v sealed beams were the only easily available option back then.

My 61 has 24v bulbs in it, but toyota does this weird ****ing ground switching thing that makes that confusing as hell too.

3 steps forward, one step back. I think I bypassed the signal relay. Suck a duck!!!!

Well after bypassing and Gerry rigging it. I think I found the problem. My signal relay is beyond pooched.

Anybody have a 24 volt signal relay??

Any DC electricians know if this will work for me?

I might have a 24V relay in a bin but not home for a long time. I'd have to look.

So I looked up the 3 prong signal relay and....... The third prong just sends a signal to your indicator lights which I believe you can just delete as they are already part of the system in a cruiser.
