I am aware that it is a South American vehicle. Me and the FJ40 are in Colombia at the moment. I looked but did not find a frame number yet. I will keep looking. Thanks for your response. I gladly accept any knowledge that I do not have already. There was another FJ40 in Bogota listed as a 1961 that looked just like mine.

The body and lights are post 75' gas filler is 73-78 windshield frame also post 75' there is just not one thing visable that is 61' on the truck

Tlc's look very similar from 50's to 80's but they are very much different

Your tag is from a 1961 ... But... If your frame doesn't match that tag somebody switched out tags... If it does match unfortunitly somebody switched out most everything but the frame

Have you owned the vehicle very long? I am guessing that the restoration was done before you bought it?

It is a very clean looking land cruiser and somebody put alot of time into it

BTW welcome to mud :)

Look at the other 61's in this post and you will see the differences

The original body was most likely trashed ... And a cosmetically good truck was used as a donor ... Does it still have the drums all around ? 3 speed tranny?

You may want to start an introduction thread of your own to comment on your truck further and document things you do to it and things you do with it :)

I have owned the vehicle only for a few months. A lot of restoration was already done. Most of the cosmetic stuff such as paint had been completed. My son in law and I have working on it off and on. Who knows how many changes may have occurred in 55 years. My last FJ40 was a 72' model, and that was back in 1978. In between my trips to Colombia my son in law thought electric door locks and windows would be a wonderful surprise. Yep! Whatever year model it is it is probably the only one on earth with those amenities. They work great by the way. You can't make that stuff up.

This is a photo from frame. It is mighty dark out here.

We are working on the engine. I really do not like the air intake. Is there a better alternative, upgrade? Also, my 72' model had more power. Maybe it was an F2 engine versus the F engine in this one. Thanks for all of your comments.

The problem I see with this photo is that common screws are holding-in the vehicle plate; as opposed to old, factory rivets ??

That's factory on early cruisers at least '67 and older all mine are that way HTH.

Those appear to be the factory JIS 4mm screw which would have the corresponding nut and lock washer on the back side of the bulkhead.

"A" pillar ID tag was riveted, however that did not start on the USA 40 series until the 03/69 trucks.

Under the hood plaque didn't use rivets until 78 model. It was also when Toyota moved the plaque back to the firewall. From the mid sixties when Toyota moved the under the hood plaque to the fender until 3/69 there was no VIN on the tub.Toyota changed the machine screws for plain sheet metals in 68. At some point went from four screws to just two screws.

Has anyone found a 61 with a vin lower than a 10121 yet?

Have you posted a bunch of detailed pictures of yours somewhere? Was a FST as I remember.

@west aussie found these two.... but... yours is still the lowest AFAIK

1-fj40-10125
1-fj40-10127

There was a couple older FHT than mine here in the US as I remember. One sitting in a junkyard in Colorado.

Where is Henry anyway ( @west aussie )? Last year was last time I heard from him. Said he had a bunch of pictures of 40 series out in the Outback where they died he was going to post.

Is there a way to lock this thread? Better for it to just burn out than is to fade away like it keeps doing.:bang:

There are 16 photos of this 1961 here: For Sale - 1961 FJ40 1st Year of the 40 Series Cruiser! 100% original...

For example . . .

Why lock it? You never know when an even older 40 may show up!

I remember the thread was curious if any progress had m been made, or is it like my 61s just sitting there.

As for older a thread such as @JohnnyC is more direct and less chat. Was never happy with the title of my thread. Bought to get some cross over parts land the intent of scrapping the rest. 202 of the production back when I started the thread was low. Now not so much. Younger would probably restore it since I now have another 61 FHT that only has a rusted sill. Both have the correct one year only rear jump seats. Have everything but two front bumpers to do a 61 FHT and FST. Just not enough time.
