White 200 owners: what are you doing with your chrome? (1 Viewer)

I just tried out Superwrap ‘Gun Metal’ on my wheels. Going to try it on my chrome trim next. It’s peelable, but also glossy. So far so good but hasn’t really been tested.
FYI I did a bit more reading about Superwrap. Apparently you’re not supposed to take it through automatic car washes. So I’m not sure it makes sense to use on trim. Probably not even on wheels, but oh well! 😔

Do you have photos from further back of the white matched portion? I'm gearing up to do black plastidip with the graphite metalizer over it, but doing some sections matched white might look nice.

Finished up a bit more on my LX.

In the rear, white duplicolor on the tail light surround, Avery white vinyl wrapping the license plate fascia, 3M satin black vinyl wrapped on the chrome bumper trim, black plastidip on the Lexus & LX badges. I'm not very consistent, but I am treating this like an experiment in multiple materials and I'll update/repair as necessary.

In the front, black plastidip on the grill. I had just removed masking tape and didn't have all the edges clean. I think I'm going to do the fog light surrounds in white as well.

Should have the new shoes on it this weekend, I'll have to get some full vehicle shots then 😄

Do all years of the 570 have holes where the chrome door trim attach, or are any years just using adhesive tape?

I have not seen a definitive post, but there are some years that only use adhesive tape. For example, @Prime has a 2011 LX570 with the trim removed and there are no holes present.

I'm looking to remove all the chrome on my 2016 LC and have it painted. Does anyone have experience with and can share how to go about removing the chrome, specifically the door molding and the rear 'land cruiser' emblem.

Door mounding on the 16 LC is held on by plastic clips, and a tiny amount of double-sided tape at the leading edge of the rear door trim. You can easily pop them off with a trim tool. And, yes, there are holes. I have mine off now with small pieces of vinyl wrap covering the holes to prevent water intrusion. I'll probably eventually paint them, but I need warm weather.

Some have had a body shop fill and repaint their side doors. If you choose to go this route I bet the body shop would remove the trim. Others have used a vinyl wrap in a color close to factory white that blends surprisingly well. Look up @FlightMedic178 build, he shares the specific color he used. I’m not sure about the rear emblem.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestion. I'll take a look at FlightMedic's setup. I was thinking a gray metallic wrap (3M 2080 or 1080 m230) would look good but am now reading about how much trouble the wrap has with the rear 'land cruiser' chrome piece. I'm also not looking forward to getting those fog light surrounds out; seems that will be the brunt of the work with having to remove the bumper all-together.

These photos and your description are exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!! I was worried I'd be in that situation pulling on trim waiting for the clip to give out not realizing they were screwed on and thereby bending the door shell outward. Much appreciated. I think some of that Magnesium Chloride BS got behind the molding and I'm looking to get a detail shop to do a paint resto to get the pitting/rust out. Part of the reason I want to remove the rear hatch 'land cruiser' and Toyota emblem.

If your truck is the Blizzard Pearl White (like mine) then the best wrap color match is Avery "White Pearl" SW900-109-S. I used this on my rear quarter windows and it's a really good match. Not perfect, but very close.

I took the sombrero off my old '13 and it was held on by double sided tape type adhesive and two molded in locating pins. I didn't take off the land cruiser piece, but I seem to recall pictures on here of it only being held on by the same adhesive tape.

I've done the plastidip thing to LC emblems before, but I'm not eager to do that on this one. It is surprisingly durable.

My LC is Blizzard Pearl, thanks for the color suggestion. I'll have to pick up a sample and test it out. Thanks!

Good point on the plasti-dip. I put some on my 2012 4Runner Trail four years ago and its holding well. Maybe I'll go that route since I'm not as concerned with these trim pieces to begin with.

@Eric Sarjeant did my trim. I went with titanium on the grille and rear Land Cruiser logo and then did the door sills in white.

That film is shockingly close to our blizzard pearl.

I really like this and may now be sold on the blizzard pear side molding. Wish I had the extra cash and lived closer to @Eric Sarjeant to have him do it correctly . Maybe I’ll wrap the side molding and then rattle-can the front and rear chrome pieces matte gray. I was thinking of going black in the middle of the front grille with matte gray surrounds and wings. BTW, here’s the state of my chrome currently. Those blemishes will NOT come off!

This is really helpful. I was also trying to figure out how the black lower piece was fitted to the chrome housing and this picture helps too. Seems removal is the entire piece and then you can further brake it down. I was also looking at double sided tape for re-application and didn't know what size to get. Looks like it's 1/4"?? maybe even narrower??

Separate question, do you know if the fog light chrome bezels can be removed without taking the bumper off? Maybe @Eric Sarjeant knows.

My 2013 had 10mm and 15mm VHB. To be honest I doubt it matters much which size you use.. the stuff is tenacious enough that as long as a little of it makes contact it isn’t coming off.
