I did a bunch of searching and found some conflicting information so I am asking directly about my case here.

I am replacing a set of absolute garbage Dobinsons Light duty springs.

Here I have a pair of medium OME rears and heavy OME fronts. I believe a light version of this set will be worlds ahead of the trash on there now.

I am going to remove the leaves indicated in the photos:

The single one here from the rears

And the two squared off ones from the front here:

Keep in mind I am running a soft top, no winch, oe bumper, stock spare tire carrier and an added older passenger side tire carrier for my Jerry can.

Thoughts?

Also, special thanks to @77mustard40 and @OlYellr for contributions to the cause.

It's been a bit but here's a screen shot of what I did to "detune" the OMEs.

Top image shows before and after for the rears, I removed the third from the top and overload springs on the rear. The lower image shows how the fronts ended up. Can't exactly recall which leaves I removed but they are sitting on my garage floor so I could probably figure it out if it's helpful.

Running a soft top at this point and even though I have very few miles on it it appears my rear springs are still pretty stiff with no weight back there and my front springs might need me to put a leaf back in. The 2F is awful heavy and it my be a bit much for how the springs are set up now.

This is extremely helpful as I just came inside to rob the mosquitos of their dinner as I have a snack.

I am done with the fronts. It looks like I have 1 leaf more than you and I took one out. These fronts were rated as HD and I took out one of the matching long ones.

Tomorrow I’ll do the rears (giggity).
Debating whether to take a leaf out or not?
Y’all are not being very helpful in making my decisions for me.

Suspect it’ll be more of this:

@solomrus and I have been occupied. Might be a good thing too. We’re busy R&Ding the first Terrain Tamer / Old Man Emu hybrid pack… the Emu Tamer™ (Or maybe Old Tamed Emu™) 🤷‍♂️

Whomever sent you those could have had the courtesy to clean those before handing them off to you.

Are you not saying, “Old Man Tamer” on purpose?

The person who sent me these front springs overcharged me too…

I would remove a leaf maybe 2. A long one and the shortest one.

I did on my front pack and wish I had pulled one more medium length one.
What pack did you have? The front is/was a Heavy load and I removed one of the pair of identical, squared off ones. I’d probably remove the other one of those if still too stiff.

The rears are my question now. They are the CS001R. The guy I got them from said they rode horribly and he doesn’t have the hard top on either.

I have the HFS springs. Little different and mines much heavier in the rear with hard top, 35” spare, carrier and 3 Jerry’s.

I think I left my rears alone. But also they don’t have that big overload at the bottom. I would pull it and the top leaf.

Now that @woody turned the crack pipe back on I can close out this thread.

Finished last night and went for a spin and it is miles better than before.

I ended up removing the overload leaf from the rear CS001R packs and one of the squared end leaves from the CS002F packs. The results are fantastic.

I disassembled each pack completely, wire brushed both sides of each leaf, packed the friction pads with Moly Lithium grease and ran a thin coat of the same anywhere there looked to be metal on metal contact. I also overfilled the greaseable shackles.

On the note of shackles, I currently have the @cruiseroutfit shackles that are around 2.75in from pin to pin and they are almost vertical. I think a set of 3.5in would be perfect. I may have to replace these shackles regardless as all of them were pretty loose on the pressed in side.

And wow, shackle prices seem to have skyrocketed so if anyone has a pair of shackles please DM me.

The rear axle looks way forward?
That is true but standard as far as I can tell. It has looked the same with all 3 spring set ups I’ve had on this truck. May consider drilling a hole an inch back in the U-bolt plate.

This pic is before I had her:
