oh yeah, and we did something about this

Changed rear diff and transfer case fluids and lubed my shaft....er....applied grease to the drive shaft. (yeah, that sounds better). Tomorrow: Oil, trans, front diff, and coolant flush.

I replaced my lower links today with some stock ones Casey hooked me up with. We were able to bend back the link mounts and mounting was not difficult. While doing so, it revealed more damage than I was expecting. The passenger shock mount has buckled and bent under the axle.

Wow. A lower shock guard wouldn't have helped with that haha.

Dang. What is your plan to fix that?

I'm thinking that I'll get a new mount and hopefully something beefier and reinforced. We'll see how it goes... So far, I haven't noticed any ride issues. We'll see now that I replaced my lower links.:hhmm:

Are you going to take it to a custom fab shop and have them make something similar from scratch?
I don't think that toyota sells just that shock mount, they probably only have the whole axle housing available.

Did it bend your shock too?

The extended pic is NICE. Those Fourtrek mounts are far more elegant than the typical cheap u-bolt clamps i have seen people do.

I was very pleased with the Thule Spare-Me bike mount but it didn't fit on my larger than stock tire size. I think i could easily modify one now though.

But, i was thinking of building one though. It would use a plate that attached between the tire carrier and the wheel and would slide over the studs. Then have a tube section sticking out that you could attach a removable bike carrier to. The carrier would look sort of like a wishbone and just stick straight out.

This is what the Thule uses between the wheel and the tire carrier, the bike mount simple attaches to this.

If you build something like that I would be very interested in how you do it. I want something along those lines for my bike because I do not want to go through the hassle of putting it on my roof and I have removed my hitch receiver.

Yeah the fourtrek mounts are nice. They are expensive but I would recommend them to anyone.

Also I am interested in making some tire mounts for a bike. Let me know if you want to go up to your dads shop and fab some up one day. I am slowly getting more confident in my skills after yesterday.

The shock didn't look bent. The bolt that holds it to the mount looks a bit bent. I'm hoping that I can get a custom mount made. The stock ones just cant handle the abuse of the rocks up here. And I know this will not be the last time they will get smacked.
On a positive note, my Ricochet skids held up great! And they took a hell of a beating.

I bent the crap out of the passenger link mount and well... lets just say my link is sunny side up....

So, new links...armor and a side of alignment

Our trip seems tame compared to this. I just grazed a couple of trees

I wheeled the heck out of scarlet this weekend. The new tires did amazing, views were amazing, and company was aight... haha! Didnt take a single bypass and set lines for many of the climbs. I was impressed!

Oh and a rear bumper... mine is so toast right now...zipties can only do so much....
