What'd you do to your KREWESER today?

If you build something like that I would be very interested in how you do it. I want something along those lines for my bike because I do not want to go through the hassle of putting it on my roof and I have removed my hitch receiver.

Also I am interested in making some tire mounts for a bike. Let me know if you want to go up to your dads shop and fab some up one day. I am slowly getting more confident in my skills after yesterday.

You definitely get what you pay for with those mounts, quality.

I have a few ideas in my head for the mount. I was thinking something along the lines of a classII sized receiver tube and then metal the size of the tongue for the actual rack. Only thoughts are that might be a little heavy. but finding a section of square tubing that fit perfectly inside of another section of tubing might be tough. Then using some plate probably cut like a triangle to weld the mount to. The FJ introduces a problem though. There is a little "shelf" that is on the tire carier to aid in putting the tire onto the tire carrier. So a section of the mount plate would have to be cut out.

This is the sizing i was referring to for classII. On the bright side, if you put in something like the masterlock hitch lock, it would also serve as an anti-theft device for your spare tire. You couldn't remove the spare without removing outer portion of the bike carrier.

Building the actual part that the bike would sit on would be pretty easy. The only thing i would need to actually source out and buy in addition to metal would be the rubber mounts/attachments to hold the bike.

I wonder if i can purchase the mounts that are on the Thule Spare-me individually.

After some research, you can buy parts separately! Those cradle mounts are about $8.50 each (parts L & M)

It may be a good bit easier to buy parts B and C, for $56.50
This would solve sourcing receiver tubes. From this i could weld on a mount to part C. But it may present other problems like attaching and removing the rack.

If you have a reverse camera in the center though, this wouldn't work at all though.

I bent the crap out of the passenger link mount and well... lets just say my link is sunny side up....

So, new links...armor and a side of alignment

Didnt take a single bypass and set lines for many of the climbs. I was impressed!

Oh and a rear bumper... mine is so toast right now...zipties can only do so much....

I was going to say that maybe you guys need to learn the limits of your rig but after reading that last little nugget, I am more inclined to say maybe you need to learn the limits of your driving skills.

Now that I think about it, when Haley gets her jeep, you guys can just trade vehicles..........

It looks to me that you can detach B and maybe weld an extender on it so it will fit on the over sized tires? If that worked it would probably be the easiest idea. Do you own one of these already?

And if that did not work and we had to go the weld a hitch route, I would not be too worried about weight since it will be on my swing out. What I will be worried about is how the ALL PRO hub system is and if that will work. I am not sure how theirs is set up and I cannot really tell in the pictures. I think I will email General Sherman and see if he can send me some pics.

I did used to have one. You would need to do a few things.
Extend the part you are referring to, somehow. Which also means getting rid of the neat locking knob thing they use and trying to source a really long bolt. So taking the thing on and off would require a wrench.
Then you would have to remove the main horizontal mounting piece that attaches to the vertical bars, slide the bars up, and then drill new holes to mount. After that, i don't even know that when you open it, if that rear section will fit around a tire wider than 265. 265/75r16 is listed as the largest tire size it will work with.

All of this and it costs about $170-190.

Check out the Saris B.A.T. rack. it mounts on the spare tire but could eaily be moved up for clearance.

http://www.saris.com/en/bike-racks/...lypage_images.tpl&product_id=37&category_id=9

and the MSRP is 150.

This is what I am looking for but my concern is that with my larger spare tire that I will not have enough clearance. It looks like the tolerances are pretty tight on the rack and that it uses pressure against the tire as support. Do you know if it is adjustable concerning the length of the horizontal bar comming of off the spare hub?

Great Rack!, I mean nice cans!, no I mean those are some big jugs!:bang:

certainly lock the cans down - we had cans stolen from the carrier on my husband's Blazer

The cans will only be on there for wheeling trips or to bring gas to go wakeboarding. A cable gun lock can easily be used to loop through both cans and around the can carrier center tube. Or a thicker cable bike lock. I am not one of those guys who drives around with full or empty gas cans on there just for the bling expedition "look", haha. I don't care what others think i look like :)

There are tabs on the side to use a ratchet strap to securely hold the cans down as well. I have some slip/locking straps that i'll probably use instead as they are faster,

My wheel is held on with 3 locking lugs nuts, as those were the only spare nuts i had in 14mm.

The bumper is a Bump It Offroad. They make 80 series bumpers and gear as well.

I also found a rack and pinion for it and it looks as tho it would fit width wise within about 2 inches of fitting perfectly. Also, the rack that I'm using comes off of a 87 to 96 dodge dakota with power steering
