There's a white 01 Land Cruiser 4X4 at Lakeside Toyota w/ 155K miles. V8. They want $10,990. It looks super clean. Very nice.
I'm really tempted to put the FJ up for sale and go get that thing. I find the FJ lacks as much space as I'd like for doing an expedition. I like riding trails, but I much prefer a longer trip, like we'll do in Ouray or I did in Utah.
What do you guys think? Layonne, you made this move.
10.9K for an 01 w/ 155K miles at a dealership seems a few thousand low. On the private market i would expect that to be in the 12-14K range depending on the condition its in. Dealership prices are usually higher than private. My 01 with 140K miles and in pretty great shape was 12.9K, private seller, and it was a pretty good deal.
100 vs FJ. For me, easiest to show by a quick pros/cons list.
FJ:
Pros:
Offroad (trails, slight advantage due to size of the FJ and having rear locker available vs just atrac in 100)
Rugged basic interior
Aftermarket parts availability (there are probably 20 different front bumpers for the FJC, maybe 5-6 for 100)
Mileage (much better in stock condition, though once you modify both, they are both getting about 15-17MPG HWY)
Cons:
Interior room/cargo capacity.
Seats are not comfortable to me.
Blind spots.
V6 (there is nothing you can do to make this engine sound good)
Price (vs 98-02 LCs)
100 series:
Pros:
Comfort (Leather, power, heated seats are nice

)
Interior room (seats 8 with cargo room to spare)
Towing capacity (6500lbs and a longer wheel base)
V8 power/sound
Heavy (i consider this a benefit in terms of getting into an accident. I know my conservation of momentum equations very well)
Cons:
Size offroad (its a big vehicle, keep your axe handy

)
Mileage stock (expect 14-17 hwy/city)
Heavy (doesn't feel as "nimble" as the FJ)
Aftermarket parts availability (still a pretty good selection available though)
Age/parts wear (bushings and other parts may need replacing)
Timing belt every 90K miles. (not needed on the FJC due to timing chain)
Torsion bar front suspension (no idea why toyota did this instead of coilovers, tundras of same year have coilovers)
If i could do it over again, i would still go with the 100 series over the FJC.
However, i would have went with an 03-05 due to the A750 transmission. Its nearly identical to the one in the FJC. 5spd vs 4spd, and better gear ratios. The also updated the center dash to look a little more modern.
For an 03-05 you are looking at a lot more money than 98-02. 03-05s run ~18-25K
