What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

And add some blue loctite.

all four rear driveshaft (to the pinion flange) bolts were finger loose this morning... tightened them back up.... what's up with that?

After 3 years I guess it's time to go re-torque everything

id pay to see a video of this!! ^^ awesome!

I put on new OME springs & shocks, full floating rear axle, new drive shafts and shackle reversal.

4 More Doors

I scored a set of doors off a 11/69 FJ40 and a set of canvas half doors. The metal doors have new CCOT weatherstripping and felts and, aside from the color, are in better shape than the original ones.

I may turn the original doors into half doors and repaint these new ones for winter use.

Did you have 7 leafs in the front before or after removing one? My front end sits too high too and I have reverse shackles but no bump steering problem. Thinking of removing one leaf and there is 8 in there now. Thanks,

Rob
I had 8 before removing the 3rd one from the bottom. I believe the PO put in some AAL all around, because the leafs I took out were considerably thicker than the rest and had rounded ends. I have 7 in the rear, with similar thick leafs 3rd from the bottom. I was going to put the removed leafs in the rear, but it leveled out nicely with just removing the front ones and didn't make sense to double up the AAL.

A little trip to the Toyota dealership

I decided to have a little fun with a local Toyota Dealership - I parked my FJ40 in the lineup with the new FJs. In the short time I was there more people looked at my Cruiser than the new FJs. I even had a very attractive offer from the guy in the yellow shirt (not a salesman)!

My FJ40 always draws a crowd when I go to the local dealer. Of course the parts guy still has no idea what to do with my VIN number.

:D Yeah, isn't that the truth, I'm amazed at how many people at the dealership and at the 800 number for toyota are clueless. I actually had a engineer insisting that the motor serial number was also the vin. I kept telling him that the frame # was the vin but the motor # was different, he called me the next day and admitted he was wrong. What I was trying to figure out is if my engine on my 55 matched the vehicle.

This week has been crazy.. After my Land Cruiser died on the freeway a few weeks ago I went crazy trying to find new injector nozzles for the HJ47 with a 2H Diesel engine. Prices from toyota are 270 ish per nozzle.. which was $1700 ish after tax..

Finally found a place to get injectors rebuilt.. Then I ripped on the 16.5x7 split rims and added some 32 x 12.5 tires on 10 slot alloys..

After all that was done.. I decided that I needed a new work car for week day driving in Nashville TN so I just bought a new Land Cruiser Troopy in Queensland .. take a few months to get it to the states but I am looking forward to having another Land Cruiser...

:DGood stuff, I went to pick up my wife in my 40 to go out for breakfast while her 4runner was in for an oil change at the local dealer. After doing the paper work and walking to my 40, every salesman at the lot was hovering over my rig. One of them asked if I was there to trade it in. I said "maybe when I wear it out", One of them said " Oh, I guess I'll see you in about 20 years". I said " No! I said when I wear it out" you'll never see me again". We all had a good laugh.

funny skidplate (-:

Been flatout gettn bits n pieces for my hj47 for a roadworthy , was in storage , was going to sell it then changed my mind , shikes theres some baragins at wrecking yards , one near me has about 4 40 series that are rusted out a bit & maybe 4 series 60 & 4 70 series , if you dont take parts fast , they go .

other days got a pair of good series 60 front brake calipers ( 4 piston version ) for $30 , got 2 split rims ( with crapppy tyres) for $50 other small parts for $10 that i needed ( coolant hoses , valve thing to hoo up heater ) , Found some wicked anti-inversion extended shackles getting monday ( put name down for them ) gettn cheap , seen some 2"lift leaf springs there ( seen a few , not sure if Hj60,61 springs fit a hj47 ?? ), heaps of 2H engines there , powersteer stuff ( will get next ) for $80 for everything , gettn front wheel studs off a HJ60 for my rear disc conversion on mon aswell , saw a 1HZ engine there . going to get one of those & rebuild it for a turbo & drop in some time , 1HZ engines are everywhere in Aussie , wasnt aware of it till i had a look around . allll fun

X2

They required my vin to get new wiper blades for my July 1974... Can't imagine what they'd do if I wanted parts for my disc brake FF rear axle, disc front end, 81 hardtop, or Quadrajet... At least there are enough of them in town, that their mechanics might realize the SBC wasn't stock (not that I'd ever let them touch my 40).

Went on the First Annual Fort Campbell Trail Ride. Attendance was a little short at only one ride but registration was pretty cheap at $5.50, which, incidentally, is also the price of a one-day fishing permit. ;) Fish weren't biting so my son and I went exploring and found some pretty cool trails. Son had a great time and wants to do it again tomorrow.
