Went out to the desert north of Mojave and went wheelin. Wanted to test the H42 and 3 speed transfercase. Also was mildly surprised that the parking break will hold it on a hill (first time since i got it).

Never rely on the stock parking brake... I set the brake once. It was holding fine. Got out of the truck. It started rolling back down the steep hill with a passenger in it and me more or less beside it. I almost got squished before it stopped rolling. Always take precautions.

Not bad but it was my first time there so I don't know what to compare it to, had a great time though.

^ That is what I am doing, except my donor is from some mid 60's fj40 took it off and trying to clean it up to put it in my 71 to replace the cracked TC that's in it.

I agree. I put it in gear before I got out. It was just nice to know that the darn thing works.

Re-soldered my ammeter after I fried it with too many Christmas lights. Did the '67 come with a fusible link inline upstream of the fuseblock? Anyone have any ideas on protecting the electrical system?

Mounted a Warn 8274-50, then drove it to the bank...which was kinda ironic. Oh, and removed that orange sticker.

it's been a busy holiday break, I did an engine swap on my 1980 fj40 and then I had enough time to buff out the paint on my 1971. enjoy the before and after pic.

That's quite a difference in the paint job - nice work!, any pointers you'd be willing to share?

I appreciate your service as well! I've been driving it almost daily as I know I'll be "away" soon and I'll sure miss it. It puts the biggest smile on my son ridin' in "the 40."

Removed seats, gas tank and transmission hump

It all started when I pulled my seats out for reupholstering. Since I was so close, I decided that after just shy of 40 years of driving my FJ40, it was time to see what was under the gas tank. It wasn't quite the time capsule I had expected - only three coins, all fairly new. Bummer. Tank was in good shape, but had some pretty serious rust where the pads trapped moisture between the floor pan and the tank. Pulled the transmission hump and cleaned all that old oil, grease and years of accumulated sand off the transfer case and tranny. Now ready for rust proofing and repainting.

Nice job on the ammo box console, love the utilitarian look. Sort of wish that I had put one in mine for a center console, but I've got a Tuffy instead and I'm used to the radio cubby and lock now.
