What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (16 Viewers)

Is that the original? It does look fancy. Needs some paint thinner and a cotton swab on the high beam indicator!

Even at its best, mine was never 100% functional. The grease on the odometer numbers had turned to glue on the odometer shaft and the odometer gears were subsequently ground smooth.

The Dakota digital RTX sat on my workbench for 11 months before I finally took the time to install it this week. I don’t remember coming across this anywhere, but I had to clearance the pedal support (1967) because the cluster wouldn’t sit flush in the dash opening.
It's the original cluster, the amp gauge was replaced a few months ago.

I have a nice high beam indicator sitting on the bench waiting to be installed.

I love the Dakota cluster, but it's a high dollar item, I decided I wanted to replace my steering wheel instead. Priorities.....

I will take a pic when I get home, I had to finesse them to fit!
I replaced my cluster bulbs with some LED. They fit fine. Replaced all but the high beam. I was replacing them while the cluster was installed and the high beam light was too difficult to reach. Pretty sure I got them at superbrightled.com but I just looked and while I see some that I think I bought, I don't see a green option so may be mistaken.

After reading what a significant upgrade it was I took on the laborious and PITA project of replacing the body mounts on my ‘72 FJ40. I went with the Energy Suspension mounts which seem to be well made and thought out.
After reading everything I could find about the process I soaked the bolts with a penetrating oil one week and again two days before I started and still I broke or had to cut off four of them. Good times!

Here is a photo of what I removed followed by one of all the tools I used.
Obviously I’m an amateur but I did complete the project.

That looks challenging!

After 5 years of sitting in the driveway … I drove my 40! During those five years I overhauled the Holley carburetor three times and each time the engine ran worse and worse until it just would not start at all. So, it sat.

Fast forward to this time last year, I bought an old Aisan carburetor from a fellow Mud member. Fast forward again to just before Thanksgiving. I decided me rebuilding carburetors was not a good thing! I sent the old carb to Mark’s Offroad @65swb45 for a professional rebuild. A couple of weeks later it showed up all sparkly and clean. I installed the carb and crossed my fingers and thanks to Mark’s handy work. The engine came to life! Turning the key, it did not even need to rotate one time, it just fired up!!! Five-year-old gas and all.

I have since filled the tank with fresh gas, changed the oil and I’m now driving it at least three to four times a week to work!

I forgot how much fun it was to drive!

Mark is a wizard.

On my deuce and a half I would hook a jeep to the fully extended cable and have its driver drag the brakes a little to keep tension in the steel cable. Another crew person would be about 20 feet from the winch with a 5 gallon bucket of grease and rags to lube the cable. Right in front of the winch another person with an ax handle would guide the spooling of the cable - it always look great back in garrison. Out in the field spending like 8 hrs winching the truck and trailer up/down the mountain for the signal shelter antenna it often look bad when you had to move the site every other day.

Where is the box of Band-Aids and antibiotics? (And the $50 you had to put into the swear jar.)

Joking aside, this is ultimately on my to-do list. Were you able to do it from under the truck without removing the tub?
