Yes all done with the tub in place. The tight confines (especially at the rear sill) and corroded bolts is what made the process so tedious. The few bolts that didn’t put up a fight were just a tease of how much easier it could be.

After reading everything I could find about the process I soaked the bolts with a penetrating oil one week and again two days before I started and still I broke or had to cut off four of them. Good times!

Here is a photo of what I removed followed by one of all the tools I used.
Obviously I’m an amateur but I did complete the project.

Absolutely worth the blood sweat and beers. I know the ride changed in Louie after I replaced the body mounts.

Fast forward to this time last year, I bought an old Aisan carburetor from a fellow Mud member. Fast forward again to just before Thanksgiving. I decided me rebuilding carburetors was not a good thing! I sent the old carb to Mark’s Offroad @65swb45 for a professional rebuild. A couple of weeks later it showed up all sparkly and clean. I installed the carb and crossed my fingers and thanks to Mark’s handy work. The engine came to life! Turning the key, it did not even need to rotate one time, it just fired up!!! Five-year-old gas and all.

I have since filled the tank with fresh gas, changed the oil and I’m now driving it at least three to four times a week to work!

I forgot how much fun it was to drive!

Any guidance on where they are all located and how many have to be removed to be able to shift the tub enough to put the new ones in? I am thinking I should start the PBBlaster now so I can get started in May...
 
Got about 90% of my 40 polished as of this evening and I’m very pleased with the outcome. The first picture is before I started this morning. The second and third are pictures of the driver side after polishing and the last picture is a before and after. Previously the paint was oxidized as you can see in the photo of the hood the before on the left and the after on the right. I taped off all the weatherstripping/rubber to help prevent them from being damaged and went to town with a 6 inch polisher and Meguiars ultimate compound. I will be going over it again with a polish then wax to help preserve the shine. I like the shiny patina finish it now has.

I was lucky in terms of all the main ones coming out with no major problems. I did have issues with the rear sill mounts and had to cut them with an oscillating saw to cut the bolts. I loosened all the mounts and then replaced them on each side one at a time. I used a bottle jack and long 2x4 to jack the side of the tub up. I removed the bolts to the front fenders and side panels while lifting the tub.


I still have an alignment issue that I will try and tackle this winter.
I'm going to attempt these steps again.

I’ve finally found the first thing that has been a nightmare job on this thing - steering. I thought I’d refresh the original steering instead of going with a power steering setup (had been researching the fj60 swaps) since I only had a lot of play, but effort was fine. I picked up a center arm rebuild kit and a tie rod end kit from cruiserteq.

I’m a handful of tools down and 16+ hours in, and haven’t yet completed disassembly. I’ve only gotten 1 tie rod to budge, but only got about 3 turns on it before it seized back up and won’t move anymore. No amount of pb blaster, deep creep or heat will get the others to break free.

Luckily/ unfortunately, I won’t be able to work on it this weekend with sports and family Christmas activities, so I can step away and figure out my next steps.

I’ll add on to what FJ40Savvy said. There are 12 mounts on my ‘72. Four on each side and four across the back. In addition to those there is a pad at each running board outrigger support and a pad between the tub and frame by the rear wheel on each side. My process to install the new mounts was the same as FJ40Savvy. You only have to lift the body enough to relieve the pressure on the mounts so they can slide out. Unless you break a bolt or have to cut them.
