Why does a 41 year old truck need to go through an inspection.

For "safety" of course. Really... it's money money money MONAAAAAY! This state has to get it's hands on your wallet whenever possible.

This isn't an emissions inspection. It's a safety inspection. They want to make sure the truck isn't going to magically kill someone. Because the $5k/year property tax, state income tax, rain tax, etc... that I pay aren't enough.

I took her for a spin up and down the street (not licensed, no brakes!) ...

Because some of them don't have any brakes?

Here in Texas there is no emissions inspection for anything 25 years or older, but the basic safety inspection (tires, brakes, lights, horn, etc.) never goes away.

One of the reasons I left.

My yearly tax bill for the '70 40 was $85 until I changed the plates to antique vehicle status. Dropped it down to $15 then the city I live in adds a $20 vehicle fee. No restrictions on mileage or use here so this is a good way to lessen the tax burden.

Permanent plates here, cost me $73 to never register it again!

Because Maryland.
$$$$$$$$$$

Or it could be registered with Historic plates, but that has limitations that come with it.

I have an exit strategy. ;)

TAKE ME WITH YOUUUU!

Got my property tax down and frozen to where it breaks down to $98 a month rent for the privilege to live in a home I built myself.
Put antique plates on the FJ40 years ago and haven't had to pay for tags ever since.
Do have personal prop tax on the Toy that is not a lot and hope nobody gets wind of how much these old hunks of metal are really going for.
Speaking of FJ40's, I was going to spend some time checking and cleaning it but the sun came out so I took the X19 for a drive instead.

Wish I had known about that when I bought mine a couple of years ago. We’re you able to change it online?

Don't remember the whole process but I believe I had to fill out a form and take it to the DMV where I received the tag immediately. Then a refund from the tax man.

but for whatever reason we don't call it theft.

I call it extortion.

We should get back to some tech.

My 40 was blowing the fuse for the heaters last week, randomly, without running the heaters. My aftermarket gauges are wired to the heater circuit also, tach and temp.

Got home and put a fuse in, watched it smoke under my finger as I was installing it.

Pulled out the trusty Fluke 87V and went to town, I found a 1ohm resistance value across the fuse holder and ground.

Started tracing wires around the switches and where my gauges are tapped into the circuit. Ohm reading went up to 36 when I touched the wiper switch, just reaching by it.

Never found a real "problem", guess I'll keep an eye on it.

Cut off drop hitch, replaced broken fire stick antenna, finished bib art piece.

Buttoned up a Saginaw with new @Racer65 FJ60 pump on Patina. Missing a couple of parts that will be in at the beginning of the week. Can’t wait to have steering without 5” of slop
