What have you done to your 200 Series this week?

Thanks, way too much for such a product coupled with shipping and unknown import duties I'll just use carabiner on the floor latches. Now if I could just get rid of the truck like hatch as loading dogs is a monumental pain. Must be the same engineer that designed the inclusive speaker cover...

The hatch is the answer to a non existent problem - trying to make an SUV look like a truck. Great for groceries but for anything practical like loading dogs It SUCKS big time IMHO of course.

You could try D rings which is what I did before I installed the Kaons.

The tailgate-hatch combo is the way. It's the only way. Toyota got it right.

The tailgate is only the signature feature of the Land Cruiser 60, 80, 100, and 200 series, and the one thing they screwed up royally on the 300-series. 70-series is the odd duck with barn doors. The advantages of a tailgate cannot be overstated for adventure and overland use. Will never own a 300-series for that reason.

Might as well get into a minivan if the merits of a tailgate don't make sense.

Yep.

Though it is interesting that in some markets you could get barn doors on your 200.. I think 80 and 100 were the same.

But the minivan point applies. For most people using their cruisers outdoors the split gate is a massive benefit.

+1 for loving the tailgate. Toyota failed on the new models.

And going back about 30 years over 3 Land Cruisers, countless meals prepared and eaten, with tailgate serving as table and seats. I can’t imagine a travel/adventure vehicle without one.

The tailgate deserves its own thread. Share pics on how to tailgate.

Loading/unloading zone. Practice night dinner table. Basketball/football tournament day prep table. Place to sit while the kids play in cul de sac. My son and I eat on the tailgate multiple times a week.

It really is super useful.

Useless for actually loading stuff and dogs. I load 5 Siberian sled dogs I don't care for tailgating by -40 or by 90 above; I have a great deck for that. As to loading stuff for the transfer station 15 miles away the wonderful gate hits you in the goonies every time you want to reach for the garbage or other stuff you're trashing.

You want a truck, get a truck, you want an SUV get that, and just 'cuz it's been around for 50 years don't make it right. I could quote you chapter and verse of idiocies Ferdinand P has as legacy that folks swear by just because it's always been there. Five gauges you can't see 2 of them, a wiper in the rear with no washer...

Sorry count me out on this one

You guys and the tailgate circlejerk. This crap makes me almost as embarrassed to be a land cruiser guy as the cupholder conversation in the 80 section. Sure, tailgate is fine. Lift hatch is fine also. Single swing barn door (ala GX,) not so great, but still, it's just an opening in the back of your truck. Who cares? You know what else had a tailgate, my EG hatchback. It was all that is manliness and functionality and any other hatchback was not worth owning.
