I got around to unboxing some new OEM front lower control arms that I purchased during the Toyota online parts sale in Dec. A small female FedEx driver struggled to get the package off the truck to my first set of outdoor steps. I don't fault her one bit, the package was almost 80 lbs. Gotta love the free shipping on these from Serra Decatur Toyota. Equally impressive is the packing job they did. Parcel was in perfect condition.

I ordered mine from the same site. Completely inadequate packaging in my case. The arms are fine though..

Replaced the radiator, heater tees and spark plugs. Also flushed the transmission again today.

Did anyone notice a performance boost from the plugs (or just me!? Lol) I have 180,000 km (112,000 mi)on my 2015 LX. It honestly feels like it has another 50 hp 😂

Took advantage of a good sale on BD Squadron Sports (199 for a pair with no tax) and also did front diff, rear diff and transfer case with new washers all around.

Greased the drive shaft and put in new Denso TT spark plugs. Factory spark plugs made it to 190k miles but were definitely tired!

Also did a recent oil change and added a ValvoMax.

Next up: will soon be wiring up a DC-DC charger to keep my Bluetti pack running to power my fridge and Starlink and charge Camera gear. And will be adding a GMRS radio but torn between a couple models....

What oil filter cap drain is that? Looks like you have the metal cap. I do too but now the drain I had for the plastic cap won’t thread on so I’ve been using the plastic drain that comes with the Toyota filters like a Neanderthal.

The plastic drain works great. Put the o-ring on first and snap it in quickly/firmly.. oil will drain much faster than the parts with the hose.

That said, anything that fits the plastic oil filter cover should fit the metal part too. They are dimensionally identical.

I guess I’m a double dufus 😂. Thanks for confirming. I can’t seem to use the plastic drain without giving myself a 5-W30 shower, and the threaded hose I picked up somewhere - probably Amazon - will not actually thread onto the cap no matter what I try.

None of us use that thing. Just put your catch pan under the housing, unthread the canister JUST until it’s free from the housing but keep upward pressure, then lower it slightly and tilt it to the side for about 20 seconds, then dump it all into to the pan. Pull the old filter, remove and replace the housing o-ring, put a new filter in, thread onto housing and tighten just until it stops no need to go further. Wipe it off, hit it with non-chlorinated brake cleaner, good to go.

I picked up this kit several years ago and it works quite well. It is slow to drain the filter but like you after a couple of oil showers this solved my problem. Remove the bottom filter cap then screws right in. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078RJ2L25?tag=ihco-20

Gents, not sure if I’m just lucky but the plastic drain that comes with the OEM filter seems great. Pops right in and I never spill oil when using it.
Same. It is so simple and effective I have to assume people that complain about them aren’t using the tool correctly. Plus nothing to clean up.. just pop the tool out and toss it in the same trash bag as the used filter.

I did have a couple of them molded incorrectly.. they were included with TRD filters. One of the three tangs wasn’t fully formed so those wouldn’t stay locked in.

As for just quickly removing the whole cap.. that would be very messy with my E&E skids and the smaller filter access window.

That’s helpful - not the part about using the tool incorrectly, but I do use the trd filters. I guess I’ll withhold judgment until I work through that stock and get into the non-trd filters.

Just make sure you put the o-ring onto the tool before using it.

I have that kit and it’s a great kit. But after a while i just started unscrewing the filter housing and letting the used oil run down the side because I was left with an oily plastic hose and fitting.

Leaving the cap on makes it just like doing a filter change on cars that had/have the metal filters which have been around since forever.

Yeah, the cleanup is a bit of pain but a couple quick squirts of brake cleaner make cleanup quick.
