Thanks to the cursed Best Upgrades for Under $100 thread, I've been busy the past few days...as well as some bigger things.
- Tried out both the Road Top 8.9" and the IILWEY CarPlay units, and kept the IILWEY. Slightly bigger screen with a built-in dash cam.
- Mounted it up to the desert version Leather & Dirt dash mount using a RAM 1" ball and a short arm and 1" to 17mm converter. Sits nice and flush atop the factory screen. Eventually I'll hardwire it to the fuse box, but that's going to have to wait for warmer weather!
- Got a driver's side vent ProClip stuck in there with a RAM Quick-Grip phone holder I had lying around.
- The corniest things ever, but...pure genius...some Drop Stops got stuffed into the void of despair.
- Installed REDARC's Tow-Pro Elite. It was so cold I couldn't get any adhesive to adhere to the ECM, so I just screwed it up high on the driver's side kick panel. It's good and solid, and my foot/leg isn't anywhere near it. Just used two screws and placed it so that about 1/2 of it is above the top of the panel. Just used one of the blanks on the left for the control knob.
- Baby also got new shoes, and fresh stoppers. 17x8.5 Method 705s (+35 offset) in titanium with 285/70/17 Falken A/T4Ws. Was hoping to not have to do any trimming or molding, but there's pretty significant rubbing in reverse with moderate turning and even at full lock going forward.
- Brembo rotors with PowerStop Z36 pads.
- Finally...the most important "mod". A safe place for the dickheads. We've had this Variocage Double XXL for years. The depth is adjustable and the whole time it's been stuffed into the back of our Forester. As small as I had to make it, we could only fit one dog in there. Now it's fully expanded with plenty of room for both. I used both the rearmost D-rings, and then ran straps to the attachment points of the 3rd row as well. Rock solid, and pushed up against the 2nd row as intended. Bit of a bummer that Air Down Gear Up's drawers won't fit underneath (Goose Gear will), but it's going to be quite a while before the interior starts getting built out and we may just have to re-engineer the dog solution when the time comes.
