Thanks to the cursed Best Upgrades for Under $100 thread, I've been busy the past few days...as well as some bigger things.
- Tried out both the Road Top 8.9" and the IILWEY CarPlay units, and kept the IILWEY. Slightly bigger screen with a built-in dash cam.
- Mounted it up to the desert version Leather & Dirt dash mount using a RAM 1" ball and a short arm and 1" to 17mm converter. Sits nice and flush atop the factory screen. Eventually I'll hardwire it to the fuse box, but that's going to have to wait for warmer weather!

- Got a driver's side vent ProClip stuck in there with a RAM Quick-Grip phone holder I had lying around.
- The corniest things ever, but...pure genius...some Drop Stops got stuffed into the void of despair.
- Installed REDARC's Tow-Pro Elite. It was so cold I couldn't get any adhesive to adhere to the ECM, so I just screwed it up high on the driver's side kick panel. It's good and solid, and my foot/leg isn't anywhere near it. Just used two screws and placed it so that about 1/2 of it is above the top of the panel. Just used one of the blanks on the left for the control knob.

- Baby also got new shoes, and fresh stoppers. 17x8.5 Method 705s (+35 offset) in titanium with 285/70/17 Falken A/T4Ws. Was hoping to not have to do any trimming or molding, but there's pretty significant rubbing in reverse with moderate turning and even at full lock going forward.
- Brembo rotors with PowerStop Z36 pads.

- Finally...the most important "mod". A safe place for the dickheads. We've had this Variocage Double XXL for years. The depth is adjustable and the whole time it's been stuffed into the back of our Forester. As small as I had to make it, we could only fit one dog in there. Now it's fully expanded with plenty of room for both. I used both the rearmost D-rings, and then ran straps to the attachment points of the 3rd row as well. Rock solid, and pushed up against the 2nd row as intended. Bit of a bummer that Air Down Gear Up's drawers won't fit underneath (Goose Gear will), but it's going to be quite a while before the interior starts getting built out and we may just have to re-engineer the dog solution when the time comes.

Just joined the club! 2013 with 140k miles. Just drove it 1000 miles home. Rust free 😁😁😁. I have some 315/70r17 wheels and tires from my previous Tundra that I am probably going to throw on. Hopefully won’t need too much cutting 🤞. Though I did get close to 20mpg on the drive home with these tires which was admittedly niceView attachment 3831550
Sweet! How much $$ ? You can PM me if you don't want to say here. I just test drove a 2013 today with about 138,xxx miles and WOW!!! It was sooooooo smooth!

That dash mount and screen setup look great! Is the 2016 and up dash that much different than the earlier models? That mount says it only works for 2016+ models.

I've no idea of earlier models, but that mounts to the center speaker grill, and I think the pre-'16s had a different stereo.

After now two years my 3D printed keyshell finally broke - still impressed how long it lasted in my pockets together with all the other keys - so I made a new one. This time instead of dark red in a bright blue and I added a Toyota logo to the back shell.

Installed the fresh gauge cluster lens I bought a year ago, while finally hard wiring my radar detector. I’m not sure what the PO used to clean it but at night the swirl marks drove me nuts. I tried to get some images of before/after.

The job was in-depth..

Still, didn’t take all that long. And I’m really happy with how a 12yr old 210k mile vehicle will let the dash come apart without any broken clips or issues.

“Quality.” Best word to define a real Landcruiser.

Every vehicle I've ever owned has had super soft cluster plastic. If you look at it wrong it will haze. I only use a dry microfiber on mine with the lightest touch possible.

Did you just replace the clear and not the entire cluster?

Correct. Pretty easy to do.. Just a handful of tabs around the perimeter of the cluster assembly. I spent more time cleaning things up to avoid dust contamination while I had it open than I did doing the actual swap.

83852-60Z20 for my 2013 cruiser. Lists for $97 currently, but that was under 80 a year ago plus I waited for one of the typical parts sales. Pretty sure I paid less than $60.

I can look up other years for people if there is interest.

Thanks @bloc

Looks like only $41.45 off partsouq. Inexpensive fix.

You are right, they are all super soft.

Nice find.. I should probably use souq more often.

Since the price is so attractive, I'll just list the numbers for other people.

08-11 Cruiser 83821-60G50
16-21 Cruiser AND 16-22 LX570 83852-6AV20

08-15 LX 83852-60F70 (little surprised this one didn't change with the 13 refresh, but that's what the diagrams say)

I use partsouq for anything that isn't cost prohibitive to ship which is usually limited by size or weight. My benchmark is toyotapartsdeal. For me, toyotapartsdeal ships from a (relatively) local store up in Portland so it's fast. Sometimes I'll compare against Olathe or McGeorge if it's a high dollar item. I've used all four of these with good service and results.

The other advantage to partsouq is their online diagram resource. More complete than the domestic sellers.

- Mounted it up to the desert version Leather & Dirt dash mount

Do you get much bounce/flex from the OE speaker grill. The LC has a large 'U' shape that looks like it spreads the load. The 16+ LX doesn't have the same fore/aft legs and I just wonder if something like a Ham radio head on a compound Ram arm would be solid.

I haven’t noticed any movement from the grill at all. I don’t have much of a moment arm, though, as the screen is resting on the upper edge of the factory system. Not much bouncing can happen.

It’s a solidly designed mount, so I’d have confidence in it, even if yours wouldn’t have the full u-shape. I don’t know if that’s really for stability or to just take advantage of the grill design and allow for more accessories.

I’d reach out to them, though, and see if they have any insight as to whether someone has already done that.

Hey @K9LTW - Interesting. I am considering the same wheel and tire (size) for my ‘18… Where is the rubbing? spare fits underneath?

edit: On second thought … maybe post in 200 Series Tire and Wheel Size Database - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/200-series-tire-and-wheel-size-database.818686/

Yeah I plan to add my data in there once I actually explore where it’s rubbing 😬

As far as the spare. Fits just fine. I wasn’t worried about that at all. Though there’s not much more room.
