Just got my latest oil report from Blackstone Labs. I know I'm geeky about my maintenance, but I love reading "if you want to try 13,000 miles it should be fine". Since I just switched to the M1-109 filter, I think 13k will be easy...

Oh wow really bigger? Glad I've switched from getting the 50 qt. I've heard the 63 is a good size for family of four. Plus the 82 qt. seems massive and not sure it would fit in our rigs. Thanks, will be getting mine soon hopefully.

Don't have a Hundy (just three 80s) but love the setup of this one. I saw it outside my work yesterday and would've stalked them to say hi but had to get to an appointment. ARB bumper, Slee sliders, gotta be someone on here.

Comms and AHC flush.

Finally got around to installing the HAM (Yaesu FT-9800) and CB radios in the Lexus. When I had the HAM in my old 80 it was installed in the DS kick panel. The LX is a bit more crowded in there, but with some careful maneuvering there's just enough room for the HAM to fit. I fabbed up a metal bracket that enabled the unit to hang from a bolt up high under the dash, added some padding on the back so it wouldn't make metal-to-metal contact with one of the control units, and wrapped it with a ziptie to keep it from swaying back and forth. It's super solid and is a perfect fit (barely) for that space. This allowed for shorter power wire and antenna cord runs than if I had installed in the PS rear panel (as others have done - which was my second option).

HAM transmit/reception is compliments of a Comet SBB5 antenna mounted on a Gamiviti antenna mount that I won several years ago at Cruise Moab.

Here's come crappy pics. If you look closely, you can just see the top of the mounting bracket and the bolt at the top. In one pic, you can see the external speaker (on the bottom right) that was a perfect fit for the notch in the front (firewall side) of the kickpanel. It's loud and clear.

The HAM controller I mounted on the front of the ash tray. The ashtray seldom gets used and the controller is easily removed (via velcro) if needed. Again, I mounted the head unit similarly using industrial strength velcro in my old 80 and it worked well for years.

I love the Cobra 75WXST for it's all-in-handset controls and the small control unit. As small as it is, it was surprisingly difficult to find a place where it was concealed but close enough to connect the mic/handset. The only place I could find (other than under the center console) was on the PS under the glove box. There's a v-shaped vent tube (I think that's what it is) and the left side is just the right size for a CB control box. I used some heavy duty automotive double-sided tape to mount the box to the side of the vent (again, similar to how my CB was mounted in the old 80), and used an "L" adapter that I had laying around to get the antenna cable pointed in the right direction. The hardest part was routing the power wires over the center hump. There's no room whatsoever in there. After 30 minutes of trying to find a route, I resorted to just putting it through the vent. Easy peasy. I then routed power through the firewall plug with the other wires for the HAM (I didn't want to punch a hole in the PS plug, plus, the PS plug is a PITA to get to. This mounting spot was the perfect location for 15' of antenna cable to reach (via the channel under the door thresholds) the rear of the vehicle where I mounted the 3' Firestick to the top of the Slee spare tire swingout.

She then got some AHC love by means of a fluid flush. The AHC For Dummies .pdf is a great guide. The only trouble I had was with the tubing I used to bleed the system - the tubing I bought was too large which=leaky+messy+AHC fluid in my armpits. Fortunately, I had some smaller ID tubing that saved the day. I couldn't get the accumulator to bleed any more fluid after the first bleed, but I'm pretty sure it bled good the first time (hopefully without air getting in the system since this is where the initial fluid explosion occurred). The system cycles well and seemingly more rapid than before, so I think I'm good. Old fluid looked like root beer, but was in decent shape. My AHC has always functioned well, so only time will tell if there's a noticeable different in ride quality.

Happy Saturday to spend it with the Lexus.

Rescued a snapping turtle off the side of the road and returned him to the creek.

I chaperoned the prom on Friday and when I went to leave saw two of my seniors reenacting the Titanic moment on my roof.

I also practiced changing my tire by myself in preparation for my trip out west so I don't need help to do it, should I need to do a swap.

Nice. What mount are you using on the hood?

I might have missed a LC meet up in Albany, but I spent all weekend in the ADKs at Lake Durant.

We found a bunch of newly hatched dragonflies on our PFDs which my 5 year old daughter placed in tall grass so their wings could dry. She loved checking out the nymph skeletons.

I have finally mastered the art of putting up my ARB awning on my own, so I'm pretty proud of that. That thing is heavy!

I got closer to a loon this weekend than I ever have, alone, in my sea kayak. What a treat.

I am also finally accepting the fact that I don't have fun female friends and would always rather hang out with the guys. I guess I've known that for awhile, but maybe it's time to admit it.

Have I said recently how much I love my LC? I had some weight behind it this weekend and it just tows so well, never seems to hunt for gears the way my 4R did. And with the 3rd row removed, the back is cavernous. It makes getting out of town so easy!View attachment 1266865 View attachment 1266866

Agree on the ease of towing! We did a 4 day ADK lake trip - Saranacs -last year and towed the 18' boat and over 1K lbs of people, dog, and gear through the mountains and to/from the lakes...no complaints from the Cruiser at any point. Glad to hear you had a good weekend and I love the loons too!

Nice. What mount are you using on the hood?

I'm using a mount that I won at a Cruise Moab raffle several years ago. Pretty sure it's from Gamiviti. I wanted to mount the antenna in the same position as the radio antenna except on the DS, the only problem was the slope of the hood is steeper that far up toward the windshield. However, I found that the PS Gamiviti mount reversed and used on the DS compensated for the slope and was perfectly level. Boom!

Lucky turtle. I do the same thing for those little dudes
