That probably does more there than it ever did on a 2F.

I hope that was TEQ branded and approved JB Weld, otherwise you'll probably only get 100k miles out of it.

Yeah, my first time connecting rubber to metal. We’ll see….

I went to start fixing the oil leaks on the 80 a couple weeks ago and starting with draining oil and pulling the filter. Turns out whoever the previous owner had change the oil didn't tighten the oil filter all the way... it was finger tight. The auxiliary oil cooler hold down bolt was also loose, i tightened this bolt and then did a normal oil change and no leaks. Very happy to not have to pull the oil pan and reseal that. Still need to do a full front axel reseal but it is leaking very slowly. It will need to get done before a trail run but its great to drive the 80 around and not leak a drop of engine oil.

Has anyone ever rebuilt a JDM factory winch? mine isn't engaging when pressing the switches. I also noticed that it is leaking out its oil which I found out is just ATF from a google search.

On the knuckles grease separation happens and you get a little liquid. It’s possible that if you have a very minor leak, that actually might be ok depending on the grease used and just needs to be cleaned up from time to time. But if it’s sludgy and really wet, then the seal has probably failed especially if you see oil mixed with grease in the housing.

I’ve rebuilt/serviced two Toyota electric winches, I can dig up some part numbers and FSM pages if you’d like.

The inner seals are definitely leaking. It’s sludgy and mixed in the housing. I have the parts sitting on my work bench. I’m just waiting for a weekend I can tear into it and a time I want to get real dirty haha

If you wouldn’t mind digging up part numbers and FSM pages that would be awesome. No rush as the front axle work needs to get done first on it

Here's the info and parts list from when I rebuilt mine: Build - Another Prado in Montana - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/another-prado-in-montana.1026093/post-14935798
I wasn't able to find the parts on the usual websites (Partsouq, Megazip, Amayama, etc) so I got in touch with Dave Steadman at Japan4x4 and he was able to source all the parts I needed. Mine was mostly mechanical problems, my brother's HDJ81 had a failed solenoid so he replaced both of those as well as resealing it. The electrical side of these winches is a little different than most, they have a cutoff solenoid mounted in the engine bay that engages when you plug in the remote. It's possible that your issue is somewhere in that system. I'd be happy to lend a hand with the diagnostic or repair process at some point if you'd like.

Being a redneck and using the 80 as a mobile shooting platform. Helping out a rancher trying to control gophers. The 80 is still raining .22 brass every time i open the back doors. I think i burned through a brick of CCI

and try as you might you'll never find each piece to clean out, remember crossin the border with my 55 back in the day. they weren't concerned about 22 brass but when they found that 45 empty i got to develope a personal relationship with the captain or whatever the canadians call their boss while the guys went diggin to find that evil handgun. at least they helped put everything back in, the one asked about how i had rock chips on the inside of the windshield and i knew enough to play dumb which wasn't hard for me. this was at the time we could buy sears for not much money at the gunshow and really make the ar sing. oh how i miss those days lol. never did get a Christmas card from the guy but i was expecting one

and while on the subject, i remember Sam getting called out of class at belgrade hs because they were doing a walkaround with the dog and it showed interest in his pu. his defroster was full of empty 22's from shooting gophers with his 10/22. was glad he didn't have his normal assortment of toys with him that day
