I would go with the basic $400ish V8/H42 adapter and put a 60 top cover/shifter on your H42 and move the transmission/transfer forwards a few inches.

That way if you wanted to go H55f later it is relatively more straightforwards.

What are you thinking for a crossmember? Your existing h42 doesn’t have the provisions on the case for a transmission mount does it?

Also, clutch and flywheel can be a lot less then $500. Like half :)

I’m thinking I’m going to call you. I think I have the clutch situation sorted, but I would like to confirm. However I need some cruisermatt parts.

Probably going to do the dreaded propeller mount on the back of the transfer case. I can get one for $230 cost and already have the swap bel housing on hand.

I have a 60 series 4-sp shifter and knob if you need.

I have a propeller crossmember I'll send you for cost of shipping. Just need to fab the mounting brackets (angle iron) and buy the pucks.

Dumb Q that I could probably answer tonight when I get home by crawling under my SBC swapped 40, but does the V8 adapter bellhousing ditch the rear motor/trans mounts? My 40 does not have a propeller t-case support, nor does it have a trans crossmember, so I believe my adapter bellhousing still incorporates the rear mounts..... Even with the short H42, is it not recommended to let the trans and t-case hang like they came from the factory?

I'd be curious to hear or see what you have. Most all V8 conversion(AA or Downey) I've seen with the stk 4speed(h42) & Tcase use a rear propeller crossmember.

Angle irons for farmers.

Or something like that.
You have to have custom bends and what not I believe. I’m not sure I understand it all yet, all the fabrication rules.

Years ago when I wanted to be an overlander I had trouble with the whole “lights before lockers” thing too.
