Removed the front axle.

Did it take that much more time to get it out?
I mean brake lines, steering, shocks, arms etc... is it worth it?
It's just a 3rd, axles, bearings & spindles.
Are you going to paint it?
It would be a good time to check for cracks at the arm brackets & beaf up the welds at the sway bar mounts since it's out now.

If you have the right tools, it's not really much extra effort. After I pulled the knuckles and axles it was about 1.5 hours of work to have the housing, thiird and arms on a dolly. By the right tools, I mean a good impact gun for the suspension bolts and a pitman arm puller for the ball joints.

I'm replacing all the rubber brake lines, putting an ARB air locker in the third, replacing the tie rod ends, replacing all suspension bushings, all new bearings, and more so it made sense to me to just pull the whole thing off, clean it up nice, and paint it before putting it all back.

Clawhammer in Johnson Valley --> Had to bust out the winch. 37's just wasn't enough to get me over....
I can solidly endorse the IPOR skidplate now. Has anyone made rear coil spring retainers? My rear tires could have drooped more, but the limit straps are preventing it. If the rear axle drooped more, maybe I could have pushed myself over, just thinking out loud.

Going Nowhere Fast!.webp

Sbman, might check inside of frame around steering box mounting bolts for cracks. Ive seen a couple trucks showing signs of this. Both were RHD, jdm models, bolt sleeves appeared to be only welded half way around from the factory, and I believe the forces acting on steering box over time caused the issues described. I feel finishing the welds completely would negate the issue, eliminating the potential for cracks to begin at either end of existing welds.

I was originally going to retrofit a 2'' receiver behind a licence plate with a hinge so that I can make use of my winch (with hitch mount) until I buy an ARB. Needless to say I got carried away..

Nah, not carried away at all. Looks great! Although how do you reach the free spool lever?

Also I never realized that snap on made winches.

Took my wife on her first trail ride up to Max Patch in western North Carolina. It was great day but they got snow on Sunday so wished we had waited a day so we could have gotten some better shots. Still a great day and now she wants to know when we're going back

I live in Ohio but and have taken several trips to that area to mountain bike but have never taken my 80 with me. What kinds of trails were you able to drive on? What source of information did you use to decide where to go? I'm going in March for a team biking trip and was thinking of taking my 80 and staying for an extra day to explore.

Anything from dirt roads to moderate trails. I live about 30 miles from Max Patch so I know the area pretty good. I use Polaris Navigation GPS app to find my way around in areas I don't know. Here's a good video to show what kind of trails you will see in the area.

Everyone else is going to the snow so why not me?
Family Snow Trip 1-16-16

As things came into alignment, pay day, day off & good weather the family made quick plans to make a snow trip. It turns out the 4x4Him group was also doing a snow run to lower Bald Mountain area. So we met up with them & made a day out of it.
We where able to get to the grean gate entrance (I'm guesing 5 miles) which was way more further than reports from other groups weeks back. By then it was 1pm, time to turn around & head back out. That took several hours as some groups behind us wanted to push forward as we were wanting to go back out creating a traffic jam. As we had to blaze another lane of travel back out. I didn’t count, but guessing about 40 rigs with 8 groups of people wanting to do different things. Crazy at best.
I was promising the kids all that day we would go sledding & tubing. As the sun was getting closer to the horizon I was getting a bit worried about it. (OK, I was getting frustrated with the traffic jam.)
We arrive safley back to Dinky Creek Road with just enough day light left to air up & allow the kids some sled & tubing runs.
The Lord is Good to us. We all had a great time, the kids got to get out & exspend their pined up energy. I can only imagine being a kid sitting a rig most of the day basically parked hoping to go sledding the whole time. That being said they did great!
Below is some pics & even video of the day.

Forgot I had some old JDM Bradley (4x4 Engineering) Wheels here, so mounted on the Federal 35s today. This will do till the other wheels come in.
