Returned from a beach camping trip to Baja with ROF - thread on Expedtion Portal. Trip door to door for me was 3878 miles. My '94 was trouble free, but the roads we traversed shook the hell out of my Yak bars that my RTT is mounted on. So bad in fact that at one point 3 out of the 6 mounts were loose. I was able to tighten 2 of 'em, but on the 3rd mount, the screw that holds the mount clamp to the bar had backed completely out. Part of the bracket kept it from getting lost, but I will need to pull off RTT and bar to get it started and tightened. We visited several beaches on the Sea of Cortez side. My 80 currently shows 262378 miles on odometer, so I'm seriously impressed with the performance. Engine is original and original build. Not a wimper and I only used a quart of oil for whole trip. Converted to Amsoil when bought at 125 K. Thank you Amsoil! Ran into guy with a '93 at Punta Escondida Beach near Mulege that had just blown his HG. He had a lead on a good local mechanic to help him out, but wow, that would suck that far into Baja and have that happen! 1st pic on the way down, 2nd on way back near Coco's Corner after previous night's rain.

Finished up the coolant/waterpump/t.stat/heater valve/hoses swap. Switched to green coolant and did a PHH bypass even through the previous owner had done a PHH swap (he wasn't always on the ball it seems as a lot of the firewall hoses had the wrong size clamps leading to tiny leaks so I swapped it out too) and all of the little heater hoses at the firewall...pain in the rear to get at them but glad it's done.

Next up, new rear brake pads and rotors...let the old ones go too long but got 50k miles on them.

No gratuitous pictures of me face down on a 2x6 which sits on the top of the ARB bumper and intake manifold to reach the firewall...:flipoff2:

I'd finished my total hose and radiator replacement just a few weeks ago, and remember thinking idly that I should thinking about replacing the radiator cap as well. Sure enough, this morning I found coolant leaking from the cap. :(

I had the same thought last night, everything else is now new (radiator is 5 years old) maybe I need a new cap, but that can be replaced fairly easily at least. Have given thought to the soft lines to the rear heater but not sure.

New coolant system seems to perform almost too well so far, can't get it over 181 F engine temp driving around town and interstate for 30 minutes even with the heat turned off...though it is cold today at 15-20 F.

How does through 1101 pull behind the '80? I've thought about getting one, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Filled her up, thats about it . Luckily, my family eats lots of food so the fuel points made the fill up only $16.85.

Hit up some remote dirt and gravel roads. It's hard to find places to wheel around here, but there's a bunch unpaved rough roads that take some time to see out. Hoping to hit this again when and if we get some snow!

$3, only??? I'm in SoCal.
I noticed that last week. It's almost $1/gallon more expensive there than in sacto.

My version of snow wheeling. Only about 30 miles out of Phoenix:{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252

**** California!

That's what you get for electing the fruit and nuts crowd in Sacramento.

Well Sacramento is in the middle of the Central Valley which is known for its fruits and almonds......

Nope. Not in the middle.
